Those 3 things are all actually related, and represent the portion of the GOP that I struggle with. I am really 60/40.
These are also the things I like about democrats. I am an independent so don't really support any of the parties but 3 things I like about republicans are:

1) their focus on growing business, especially small business

2) Their support of school choice

3) The republican ideological principal of fiscal responsibility (wish they'd go back to walking the walk on that one)

I am trying to think of a few things and I have come up with a couple: some of the congress can vote against their party when they really are thinking of those back home.

I really do think the Democrats (a lot of them anyway) do care about the poor. Not that I think they are going about it in the right way, but I think they are basically caring.

I believe overall the Democrats are more accepting of gay rights. This doesn't mean Republicans are not, but I don't think they are as accepting.

I'd say that unlike in many countries it gives a voice to those who disagree with me. I agree with Biden on his statement that looking at American history the political pendulum is always swinging. Big swings come with poor results in governing and peoples lifes not better I their view.Mostly its the non-committed who do the swing.
