Local grocery store workers voted to strike, meaning there could be a massive work stoppage by next week.

A walkout would affect Fred Meyer, QFC, Albertson’s and Safeway stores throughout the state.
Local 367 of the United Food and Commercial Workers – a group of roughly 30,000 workers - told KIRO 7 that members were angry over cuts in medical insurance and salary being offered in the latest proposal by the four stores. Under the proposal, any employee working fewer than 30 hours a week would not be offered health benefits.

Under the coming Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare,” employers would not be forced to offer health insurance for staff working 30 hours or less.

So the Local 367 of the United Food and Commercial Workers think there special? It the Law I'm sorry - you got/get exactly what you voted for and now you want to go 'on strike' because of the consequences of your vote. Sad, really sad!

Oh, so you mean that these workers would be subjected to the same standards that the rest of us non-union people are? No way!! Oh how will they live?!?!

All am am saying If we all have to deal with the ACA whether you hate it or love it the unions have to follow it as well.

I just cant stand people and groups that think there rules do not apply to them or there special . Well your not so go fly a kite .

What our your thoughts on this? I say it the law deal with it like every one else has to.

??? w? t? f?

ACA says employers are not required to provide insurance to employees worrking feweer than 30 hours a week. Well duh.

In case you hadn't noticed, union contracts often give workers things employers are not required by law to provide?

Just like many other companies I'm going to venture to guess these workers had lower cost plans, not great but still a plan. These have been outlawed under Obamacare so these companies are faced with shelling out a lot more cash union or no union.

There should be NO exemptions from the ACA.

This is a reason why unions will become needed more then ever as the "Job Creators" decide that profit is more important then a happy and healthy employee. The average Groc. employee worked less then 32 hrs/week ( so they could not claim to be full time).

Contracts are needed in todays economy more then ever.
