Edit ..... it was NOT the Senate Democrats that defeated this funding. It was the House Democrats. The bill had to move under a 2/3rds rule and the House Dems kept it from moving to the Senate.

The Democrats want the pain of no pay checks for Veterans, Park Service Employees and Federal Employees in the District of Columbia to continue. The pain of a Shut-Down must continue for Political gain.

Democrats Turn Back GOP’s Piecemeal Funding Strategy

They would have done the same thing for the Troop payments, but they were caught by surprise and accidentally passed the Troop payment Legislation. They were too afraid to turn it down - but it doesn't bother them a bit to stop the salary of other groups. The pain of the Shut-down is perfectly OK with them. Real people and real lives are just cannon fodder.

It's a special kind of ideology that is willing to inflict this financial pain on others to prove a point in "hope" of political gain in an election a year away.

Republicans in the House should put forward a clean bill funding everything. This releasing one hostage at time is ridiculous.

Sounds like the Democrat's plan ..... let's refuse to even speak to Republicans and hold all the Federal Workers Hostage in the meantime. Should work out great as long as the Federal workers don't figure out exactly who is making sure they suffer.

No, House Republicans turned it down. It failed in the bullet proof majority Republican House.

I totally missed that it was the House Democrats that defeated this funding - thank for the catch on that. I will try to amend the title to reflect the culprits.

That's reasonable. Half-axxed legislation achieves half-axxed results.

[i agree with the Democrats on this aspect of the argument]
