May 2009, Shannon Connely was asleep in his home when squealing tires and barking dogs awakened him.
Connely grabbed his holstered handgun and ran outside to find a police officer.
The officer, who was looking for a missing child, drew his gun and ordered Connely to drop his weapon.
Connely cursed, said his gun was holstered and ordered the officer off of his property.
The officer shouted at him to drop it and lie down, Connely complied.
He was hit with a Taser, then arrested.
Connely, a real estate agent who had never before had a run-in with the law, was offered probation if he would plead guilty to a felony.
Instead, he opted to take his chances with a jury, who convicted him of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct, the judge gave him 10½ years in prison.
April 2011, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency recommended that his sentence be commuted to the seven months already served. The vote was unanimous. Gov. Jan Brewer turned him down flat.
Today, Connely will remain behind bars until December 2020. Our tax dollars at work.
Brewer has been tampering with the supposedly independent clemency board.

It doesn't surprise me in the least. Terrible, terrible story. All states need to adopt Indiana's law when it comes to protection against the Police.
All citizens should also DEMAND full transparency from our Police forces and end internal investigations.
Well, not to try to derail or hijack this thread Gtownoe, but you and I both know what's happening in Chicago recently about those past police abuses, people are coming forward now and implicating former police officials and the police themselves as well as former mayors of covering up brutality.
I'm with you on those internal investigations, they should be independent.

Thing is, a number of people thought that it was a miscarriage of justice, including the judge and the board, but Jan Brewer? - bring the hanging rope boys!!!!! The worst thing that Janet Napolitano did was leave us in the hands of Jan Brewer.

It's pitiful. People there are brainwashed into thinking the party is fighting for them when they're not.
This story is terrible. A life was ruined over the ego of a cop.
I will simply never set foot in that state, the closest thing we have to Fascism in America can be found there.
I agree. I know several people that have relocated to AZ and these people are financially set and could move anywhere. I'm always puzzled as to why they chose a state that elected a witch like Brewer, especially since they are Liberals.

That's terrible. She should be ousted immediately for that act alone.
I'm all for Indiana's law where you can defend yourself when the Police is breaking the law. Don't know if this would fit the bill, but it should.
There's already been multiple incidents where they enter the wrong house and kill the occupant.

Actually it is quite nice compared to the scumbag state of Il, where the mayors, aldermen and governors are routinely convicted. When I arrived here 11 years ago, Janet Napolitano was in charge, and things were cool. Since the wicked witch of the west took over, things have turned south.
