Of course everyone has options, but sometimes all of the options suck.
That's why you learn to make your own options.
Once you learn and accept that YOU are the master of your destiny, and that YOU and YOU ALONE are responsible for changing your future and your fate, then you no longer have the mindset of a poor person.

Many burger flippers don't have better options, and, unlike the rich who can drop dollars for scholars at the drop of a hat, some burger flippers can't afford to get the education or training that would qualify them for a better job.
Given the choice of flipping burgers for chump change and not flipping burgers and therefore earning no wage it's hard to fault those who 'choose' to flip burgers.
Why don't you advance your rank in the kitchen? If you are a burger flipper, you can probably get another job as a prep cook in some restaurant. In a several years you could become a sous chef or a manager. That should give you enough money to start saving up for college if you want to switch to another industry, or starting your own restaurant if you want to stay.
The total financial wealth in the United States was about $54 trillion in 2010. The average/per capita financial wealth of the bottom 80% of American households was about $27,000 in 2010.
How long could you or your family survive on that? What if you were laid off from your job? What if you had a medical emergency or other catastrophe that cost you a lot? What if you got hit by a high interest rate, whether it be a credit card company or mortgage?
About 80-85% of the American population is almost or totally dependent on their household income-their work/labor, or in the case of the poor (and/or the retired), government assistance. About 10-15% of the American population is financially stable, but still mostly dependent on the income from their work/labor.
That leaves 1% of the population owning more than 40% of all financial (non-home) wealth. And there's even more inequality within that 1%.....
With stats like these, is it really a surprise that more and more people are depending on government assistance? America has a wholly inadequate public "safety net" on an international scale, and an almost non-existent private one...
Something needs to change.
The far right took control with Reagan and created this mess. If we can get a Democratic supermajority in Congress, as in California, the country is saved. The Republican shutdown may guarantee this.
I'm tired of single mother moochers who work two jobs wanting more money when they could just work harder like Miley Cyrus and earn a living! Liberals will never understand how hard the Kardashians work!

Rich people make use of their resources. The Kardashians use their name.
The poor don't have their name. They must use other resources.
