A curious note
Did anyone besides me wonder how they got all those signs printed and distributed far and wide, including to all the national parks and cemeteries overseas only eight to ten hours after the government shut down? Take a look at this from someone who wanted to remain anonymous.
I have worked in the government on and off for 40 years. During that time I became quite familiar with requisitions, bidding, awarding contracts etc. It is a time consuming process with bean-counters and pencil-necked bureaucrats every step of the way. The simplest request takes months not days or hours.
In less than 8 hours of the shutdown, ...miraculously, professionally printed 3X4 foot signs appeared all over the country in the tens of thousands saying-“this [park, facility, etc. with custom logos] closed due to government shutdown. There has not been a government shutdown in 17 years. These signs were designed, specifications were determined, signs were then requisitioned, bids were posted and vetted, government contracts were awarded. The materials were then ordered and the signs manufactured then distributed U.S. Mails or freight companies.
This shutdown was orchestrated and planned well in advance at least 6-8 months ago. Millions of tax dollars were appropriated and spent in this process. There is a paper trail a mile long leading directly to the White House.
First of all, your "friend" posted something that was posted off a website.
Secondly, all government agencies have a graphics department. I saw most of the signs personally as I live in the DC area and they were printed on card stock with an already-stored/designed image for the park service. Stuff like this is made up all the time for presentations, meetings, conferences.
There is no way that those stupid signs would have been contracted out for by someone.

First, that was obvious.
Secondly, you may be partially correct but I doubt very highly even as you suggest they were made that quickly.
Have you seen most government agencies work like that often if at all?

LOL yeah....... At first the Wt Mt's National Forest had signs it was closed... next the Iron Rangers were taped up and the parking fee envelopes were removed. Soon after maybe the first 10 days while 'No One' was 'working' the composting toilets were locked up. After that the picnic tables bore signs they were closed.
Then I hear Christmas was cancelled. If that wasn't enough Obama closed the mt streams, and shut off sunshine
Then it ended. which i found too bad since i was expecting the sky to part and see the black messiah step forth and assume his roll, a cheap junk hot dog roll made in red commie china.
The ass clown should take heed in his next 3 years if he doesn't want another real bloody revolution inside the USA! That won't look very good on his resume will it!
The best news is I learned any fool can take the fee envelopes. Oh sure there is a little wooden box with a little lock
And last, while the 'PC' won't understand it, that WHITE HOUSE the black messiah lives in belongs to We the People and it is a national park in and of itself which should have been SHUT DOWN and CLOSED locking the black messiah OUT!
Yeah, obviously getting the tea party movement started with a bunch of idiots in 2008 was a master plan to get the government shutdown in 2013...miraculously outed by agencies actually having "closed signs" in the back somewhere.
I know conspiracy theorists are nuttier than squirrel poop, but this just about takes the cake.
It doesn't take a master plan to make the GOP look stupid. Just put Palin on TV again. I am surprised she can still show her face after being laughed at during the vice presidential debate.

What "specifications"??
Signs varied widely from one location to another. Most were smaller than 3X4. There was no uniformity in size, font, graphics, etc. Some looked hand-made, most but not all included "due to government shutdown". Some just said CLOSED. Some had an NPS black graphic across the top, some across the bottom, some not at all. All the Wash DC signs were small with the NPS graphic on the top, but none elsewhere looked the same as them.
How do I know? I image-googled it.
