I see our Republican friends in DC have gotten all hot and bothered about food stamps, Medicaid, WIC, and other social safety net programs helping poor folks. It's almost as if they are waging a war on the poor. There's this radical socialist who also believes there's a war on the poor.

What does victory against the War on Poverty look like to liberals? We've been at a government-sponsored war with poverty in the U. S. since the 1960s when Democrat President Lyndon Johnson first used the term to describe his legislation to the American people in his State of the Union address in 1964. What does victory look like?

I found it telling of the GOP when they were outraged by the closed memorials during the government shutdown but didn't give a hoot about the shut-in seniors who would not get meals on wheels. Enough said.

Johnson launched the war on poverty. DC Republicans have launched a war on the poor. That's a slight difference.

The GOP figured that trying to turn war veterans into political props would be more effective.

I'm not sure how children "choose" to be poor?

Please enlighten me.
