Since I could only pick one answer, I picked the third, "Tell him None of Your Business", just as I do for City-Data forum posters asking the same thing. The poll lacks entries for "Start looking for a new doctor" and "Ask him why he needs to know", plus the ability to pick all three of those answers simultaneously.

Is this something that is commonly asked in parts of the country? I've never ran into this question in my years of taking our kids to the doctor or going to my appointments. Only thing ever asked about home life at a child's visit is exposure to second hand smoke. If ever asked I would say MYOB.

You should have asked how people feel about psychiatrists asking if you have guns in the house.

I would give them a quizzical look and say "huh?". It would go no farther than that.

Our boy's doctor owns more guns than most of the other people I know.

I traded my vintage Ruger .22 for a 20 gauge breech load side by side shotgun with my daughter's doctor. I guess he knows I own guns.
