Do you think that Republicans on food stamps or other aid/welfare are hypocrites. The Republican party has made it a central issue that "Obama is a food stamp President" and saying similar things.

I recently heard about someone that is supposedly a "hard core Republican" but turns out they receive food stamps..

How is this NOT hypocritical?

Depends. Saying Obama is the food stamp president doesn't indicate you think food stamps are bad, just that you feel he has damaged the economy.

But really...being against safety nets and then using one...thats hypocritical.

No one is against safety nets, they are against the substantial expansion of safety nets without any oversight.

I don't have a problem with food stamps and understand that people need help from time to time, I have a problem with indefinite assistance that creates long term dependency.

Maybe if he weren't "a food stamp president" the republicans you speak of would be working and not on food stamps. Cause and effect?

Every now and then, one poster posts a common sense approach to a forum your this person.

Thank You for being the straight factual shooter. Your exactly right, anyone who thinks differently, are the ones with the problem. Most mature individuals would definitely have a problem with the substantial expansion of any safety nets without any oversight what so ever

Most caring people don't have a problem with the food stamps, and people down on their luck do need help from time to time. But it is those who use this assistance indefinitely, that does create the long term dependency, that hurts AMERICA PERIOD.. And i can tell you many long boring stories of those who try to screw the system from realitives who work at Social Securiety offices around this Country, i know many and have heard the outrageous stories people will go thru, to get their free pass.

And it is those people who feel that they are special, and should receive that in which they do not deserve, indefinitely that makes good people crazy. Sorry but many lazy people out there i have no respect for.

Good Answer Good Answer. But true, many good hard working law abiding citizens of this Country, found themselves out of work, with the lost of a job, and lost of a home. When Obama became our elected.

One by one hard working americans who were on their jobs some for over 20 years, and felt they were safe, lost their jobs. I myself know 24 familes affected by the lost of a job and a home under Obama's leadership.

Why shouldn't someone who has worked all their life, and felt they had a safe job, not take the help when they need it. When they need it, hardly think these kind of people will take advantage of the system like some. Lazy bum scum, who feel they can take and never work for it, many are scamming the system, we know this.

My realitives and friends who work in the S.S. offices also know this.

Everything is true. The other thing which truly should upset persons is the blatant fraud and abuse of these systems. Yet, to most liberals, especially posting on these boards, they don't care. If you bring up the fraud/abuse their only argument is: Corporate welfare. They refuse to even listen too and/or do anything about abuse/fraud. Their stance? When corporate welfare is eliminated, I'll worry about it.

Its the whole hand up vs hand out argument.

Most conservatives are ok with goverment assistance to help out with a hand back up. The problem is when it becomes a hand out that never ends.

The US has a generous welfare state and social safety net. We need to trim fat and crack down on waste fraud and abuse
