Really--highly offensive to who? And who gets to define which human beings are allowed to have civil rights? Who is it that gets to decide gay human beings may not have the same civil rights as all other human beings? Religious people who base their ideas on what is literally in the Bible? Sorry--this is a country governed by the rule of law and not the Bible, which brings us back to morals. The Bible does not govern morality for everyone--only Christians who believe it is a book of literal truth. Muslims believe that comes from the Koran, Jews from the Torah, Hindus and Buddhists believe otherwise.
Nobody is saying rich people have no morals. But, wealthy people who claim they are Christians, yet are greedy and avaricious and could care less about the poor and needy, certainly are not obtaining their moral values from their religious beliefs.

Viewed from a secular perspective, gay marriage is of course a civil right.
Viewed from a religious perspective, it's not.
However, as modern societies, we have long ago cast our lot with secularism as the best way to have a functioning society that respects its individual constituents. So therefore, from the perspective adopted broadly by modern societies, it is a civil right. Sorry that you don't like it, but that's what it is.
It's simple. You don't need religion to have morals.
In fact, legions of American right-wingers who are religious are highly amoral, as evidenced by their bigoted view points on minorities, their worship of guns and violence, and their support of a sharp-elbowed "dog eat dog" world view. They enjoy using their religious convictions as a cudgel with which to beat others different than themselves (gays being the most popular today) and just generally tend to act nothing like anything Jesus ever stood for.
One need merely look at the history of the world to realize that an immense number of disgusting and barbaric acts have been done by religious people in the name of their God, whether Christian, Muslim, or other.

You're comparing apples to hedgehogs. These people didn't slaughter in the name of their religion, like the Crusades or the Spanish Inquisition.
In any case, Hitler was a Catholic.
The issue is that there are a lot of people on the right who want a state religion. As such they tend to say that anyone who does not want a state religion is against them having the right to say God in public. No one is knocking down tent revivals or arresting Mormon missionaries at the bus stop, but a lot of folks are not comfortable with undermining the Constitutional principle that suggests government should be neutral in matters of religion.
