Every rule needs exceptions:

Girl, 11, told not to sell mistletoe, but begging is fine

They are just gearing people up for what will be necessary in the near future.

Portland, Oregon. It figures. This is what happens when you let large swaths of liberals run a city. Is there a more useless place in this country other than Detroit?

All she had to do was beg and have a sign that showed the minimum donation she would accept and that she would reciprocate for their generosity with a bundle of mistletoe as a free gift of thanks.

On the other hand if children or dogs ate the mistletoe they woul be poisoned! Thank goodness for city ordinances and lawyers. If they could have saved just one life by getting her off the street it would be worth it!

Mistletoe is considered a parasite just like most beggars.

Hence the need for some common sense exceptions. She's 11 - Portland needs to re-assess the impacts of their teachable moments.

I see someone has been hanging out on Fox Nation's War on Christmas site. It doesn't matter what age someone is, it is illegal to sell goods on the street. If her parents want to teach her the value of selling goods, they could rent her a table at any one of the craft events that happen in Portland or talk a local business into letting her operate a table in their store.

The reason why this law has no age limit is because it would be easy for people to set up tables on the sidewalk to peddle crap and all they would have to do is make sure they had a kid with them so they could say it was their kid's table.

AH; a PC ordinance that like all ordinances depends on interpretation and exceptions when written.
