your defending a Republican who makes 175K a year and works 3 days a week

There was no dishonor attached to working for your lunch.

Community service is a requirement for graduation in our local school district.
Community service being a requirement for graduation is a good thing.

Making all the kids in a school or the ones who misbehave help with cleaning or serving lunches is a good thing.

Singling out kids whose parents can't afford to buy their lunches is not.

right wingers are so petty. so while the parents, who are most likely part of the working poor and not a right wing stereotypical welfare queen who just sits on her fat butt all day, scrub the school for lunch money, who is supposed to work to pay the rent or bills?

Community service should be a voluntary choice that is the parents responsibility. Another example that government owns our children.
Children in rich areas can afford to work for free. Poor areas not so much. Take care of yourself first, then one can help others.

Give the parents of the misbehaving kids a few choices for the punishment. Detention being one choice. However well intentioned, schools should not force kids to work. Again let the parent be in on the process and they get to decide what the punishment should be.

Most politicians are out of touch. Just because a kid gets a free lunch doesn’t necessarily mean that they are dirt poor. A family of four can make up to $40,000 and still be eligible.

There may be classified school staff whose job it is to sweep the floor probably already has kids who qualify. From my experience it’s the "rich" kids who don't know how much things cost. Poor kids have to buy everything they want and need with their own money.

Left-wingers are so petty. They make strange statements about a right-wing stereotypical welfare queen.... What? Whoever heard of a Welfare Queen being a right-winger? No one. A stereotypical Welfare Queen is a democrat who probably doesn't even vote unless someone takes her and shows her who to vote for.

You liberals really aren't doing a thing to get back any kind of work ethic but instead want to make more people into useless parasites who can do nothing but mooch off the taxpayers. A job is the best social program there is, anything that promotes job skills, a work ethic benefits people.

Most poor kids I know would rather skip lunch than be singled out.

Making kids work? That only singles them out making them targets. That is simply wrong.
Imagine the ridicule humiliation and bullying that would come out of this especially from " the haves"
