I know not everyone on this forum has their dream job, or even a job at all in this tough economy.
If you are being hit by the end of the unemployment extensions, what are your plans going to be now?

Most will probably switch to welfare if getting a job is not happening, the unemployed arent going to just lay down in the streets and wait to freeze to death, they are going to get the bare necessities of life one way or another..
OV101 what would you do?

My plans for the weekend involve downhill skiing at a local resort if you really want to know. I may be a lib but I think that someone who has been collecting unemployment for 3 or 4 years isn`t really looking for a job or they`re working off the books and double dipping. Enough is enough already.

Welfare needs to go away. It's called CHARITY. That's what religious facilities, the salvation army, various missions and an assortment of other charities are for.

Well if those charities were doing such a bang up job of providing for the needy then why did anyone see the need for welfare in the first place?

Unemployment benefits are not welfare. Anyone with a measurable IQ knows that.

3-4 years is a mighty generous insurance program, while i'm in full support of Unemployment insurance benefits i think a year ought to be the maximum.

Unemployment isn't going to end in 2 days.

What is called the private side can suffer from some of the same issues.
However, unemployment insurance isn't charity.
The only reason the govt offers services is to acquire more wealth.

Why did anyone see the need for welfare in the first place? Because they wanted political power. When you switch the source of aid to the government, then you can campaign on providing that aid, gain the power of controlling how the aid is spent, justify increased taxes, and demonize any candidate who opposes that aid. And Democrats have been doing exactly that for the past two generations. Obama even went so far as to propose removing tax deductions for donations to charity, so people would rely even more on public support than they do now.

The fact is that government aid did not exist for the majority of our history, and people survived fine. For example, during the Depression when there were no food stamps, there were soup kitchens set up all across the nation. Government aid didn't come into being because there was no private aid. It's the other way around. Private aid disappeared because government aid came into being.
