The official anthem, the Star Spangled Banner was written by a socialist, whereas the unofficial and maybe more popular This land is your land is the most remembered work of a staunch communist. Quite a paradox.

EDIT: And God Bless America's author, Irving Berlin, was a lefty when he wrote that song too, although he became more conservative during his later years

This Land is Your Land is based on a tune (Lil' Darlin Pal o' Mine) by the legendary Carter family of southwest Virginia. Great old folk tune. Woody Guthrie added the lyrics. Yeah, Woody was a notorious lefty but I would still take This Land is Your Land over the ridiculous unsingable German drinking song that is our current national anthem.

What about the line about private property? Has it made a come back in popular singings of the song?

Yes some of the verses have a leftist slant. But they're towards the end of the song and I don't think I've ever heard anyone sing them.

Who honestly cares? I still wonder if anyone who cares seems to think that conservative Americans are the only real Americans.

This is true. What I recently learned about this has COMPLETELY changed my mind about The Pledge. I would now side with the JWs if I were back in school.

We only have ONE anthem. I think it shows HOW FAR LEFT the modern Leftists have moved further left.

I don't think anyone would consider me a lefty but I would change the anthem to This Land in a heartbeat. Just maybe leave out the last couple of verses.
