My wife was astonished to hear the ravings of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright... on Fox News, a month before the 2008 election, on one of the rare times she noticed it, watching over my shoulder. Then she was even more astonished to think back and realized that the "news" stations she had been watching - ABC and CBS, with a little CNN - had NEVER shown any of it, even though the then-candidate for President had been sitting in that church and soaking it in for TWENTY YEARS.
It turned her against Barack Obama once and for all.... and against the mainstream media.
How many other MSM watchers would have been similarly affected, if they'd known?
I found Americans do not quite trust the media with respect to domestic issues. However when it is about international issues, they suddenly accept all the propaganda, especially when the reports are about countries they don't like or are told not to like.
