So they are thinking about taxing bicyclists in Chicago after making a big push to encourage bicycling but it's going over like a lead balloon. The bicyclists say they don't see Chicago taxing shoes for the people that walk on the sidewalk.

News from The Associated Press

But, you know Democrat politicians -- they get the heebie jeebies if they can't tax something. So, let's give Rahm and the other city officials some ideas on things they can tax.

I propose that any vote for an incumbent have a $5000 tax.

It might not work if it were limited to Chicago but on a national level considering all income, including retained corporate profit as corporations are considered people, and, after setting a deductible equal to the 90th+ percentile, tax it a level suitable to balance the budget, including our wars and corporate subsidies, would work better than our currently regressive system. This would place the burden of financing the government on the corporate people that effectively own it. By eliminating taxation for 90+ percent of us it would allow us to spend or invest as we please.

Why should corporations pay for the bike lane maintenance ?
Chicago went and bought special mini-plowers to clear the bike lanes.
They aim to be a bike friendly city.

Why shouldn't they tax the users of the bike lanes ?
If people want special treatment then they should pay for it.

Keep legislating all these services for people with no way to pay for it.
Then turn to business to foot the bill ?

No wonder so many businesses are relocating.

Why don't they tax hanging out on the street corners or tax each bullet fired.

Tax any elective type of birth control device, contraceptive, abortion, or medical procedure, since they deplete tax revenue, by depriving government of future taxpayers.

" The bicyclists say they don't see Chicago taxing shoes for the people that walk on the sidewalk. "

They need to check to see who paid for the sidewalks, and who pays for any maintenance required. they will probably find that the property owner pays, through real estate taxes and/or Special Improvement Districts. The "shoe tax" is a ridiculous idea, designed simply to make the city leaders look foolish. Besides, I bet there is already a sales tax on shoes!
I can remember when a town I lived near had a bicycle registration program, with license plates. It helped when a bike was stolen, as often happened.
I think the registration and tax is a good idea, along with better enforcement of the laws relating to bicycle riding.

Actually those things save money because it's less welfare recipients to pay for.

I think campaign donations should be taxed like income tax. If the party receives a total of 100 million in donations it should be taxed at the same rates an individual would pay.

$10 million tax on politically connected investment bankers who don't even have a degree in business, economics, etc., but whose degree is in art history, liberal arts, 'speech and communication,' etc.
