Whoever designed us was a mediocre designer. The human body is flawed to so many extremes. Natural selection always prevails.

Why would natural selection then turn us into one of the wimpiest species?

It's like looking at an amazing piece painting and believe that cans of paint must has just randomly fallen and spilled.

False equivalence

There's no ideal form.

Actually in nature, it's best to be as simple a form as possible. The more complex you are, the more the forces of nature and biology are against you.

We're not more suited to survive than a cockroach or an algae.

Evolution works with what it has on hand - it's not a directed process. Our primate forefathers happened to inhabit a niche that favored larger brains capable of communication and cooperation. What we consider non-wimpy animals tend to be apex predators, and those rarely benefit from cooperation. Polar bears don't hunt in packs.
