Haha... given your less-than-stellar grasp of the English language, I'm not surprised you missed the joke from the get-go.

(I assure you Weltschmerz knows the word, and we all got the point about 5 posts before you did)

The fact that many Americans do not bother or care to learn how to spell, punctuate or use grammar properly may be contributing to the demise of the country as well.

"Putative" President?
Here's news, Britt.

Obama won. The election was verified. Obama is not just 'generally accepted' ( the definition of the word putative) to be the President of the United States. He is officially the President of the United States.

Live with it.

Nobody says you have to like the fact, but it is still a fact, not a supposition. Don't try to be clever by using $3.00 words; City-Data has lots of members who have good vocabularies. Save them for Brietbart or Wing Nutz Daily, where the mouth-breathers abide. Let your birther fantasies flourish there, because you'll find this forum barren ground.

Why did he mention the gay contingent? Because Putin is, as we all know, punishing gays for his own purposes. Putin is a bully, and Obama just put him on notice that the U.S. will not accept his bullying with passive silence on this matter.

And now, you no longer have to wonder why Obama said what he said.

Yes they do have to resort to such childish rancor! To me he looks incredibly tired! Notice how the right wing doesn't talk about how "drunk" Boehner looks 24/7!
