The governor predicted sales and excise taxes next fiscal year would produce
some $98 million, well above a $70 million annual estimate given to voters when
they approved the pot taxes last year. The governor also includes taxes from
medical pot, which are subject only to the statewide 2.9 percent sales tax.

OLYMPIA, Wash. - The state's new legal recreational marijuana market is
expected to bring nearly $190 million to state coffers over a four-year period
starting in mid-2015, according to an economic forecast released Wednesday.

The forecast by the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council showed that $51
million in revenue is expected for the 2015-2017 biennium from marijuana
production and sales. An additional $138.5 million is expected for the next
two-year budget that ends mid-2019. A little under half of that revenue is
expected from excise tax and license fees related to the marijuana market, and
the rest is expected to come from retail sales tax and business taxes.

So anything that feeds a bloated government's need for money is good?

What's next? Prostitution?

Let's wait and see what happens when all of these new "stoners" become unemployable because they cannot pass a drug test.

Well, the state-regulated pot stores in WA have yet to open, and it's unknown how popular they will be -- since the law that created them sets the price of marijuana considerably higher than it currently is on the black market. Will people decide that the extra peace of mind is worth a premium price?

Oh, and then what will the "Reefer Madness" crowd do? Anywho, I hope that my state Ohio isn't one of the last to do so.

Kind of off topic, but since you brought it up I would have no problem with legalizing prostitution.

The reason is it exceeding expectations is because the prices are a LOT higher than normal... I still want marijuana legalized...
