A question asked by my office-mate here. And I've never heard it put better.

We keep hearing how everybody has to "pay their fair share". It's most often heard when Democrats are trying to raise taxes. All this money we're paying in, never seems to be enough. The Democrats always want more, and more.

But it has to be going somewhere. It helps others who don't have as much, we're told.

Well, I'm paying a pretty fair share already. When do the others start paying THEIR "fair share", too?

Answer is: Not until they have to. And right now, they have it made in the shade.

Note that as soon as the debt ceiling was raised, Obama wasted no time in new spending. It's like democrats are addicted to it.

To what new spending are you referring to?

I would hope you hold Obama to the same standard as other presidents, no?

Liberals are addicted to it. In both parties.

Typical selfish right wing complaining.

You want the poor to subsidize your local community even more?

Absolutely! Liar Obama has increased federal spending from $2.9 trillion to $3.9 trillion in five years.

So, you are going to disregard the evidence, that shows Obama' has spent less as a portion of his economy than any of the last 5 presidents?

Sigh. define "fair share" and why?

Should it be based on wealth? Then we're not doing too bad.
Should it be based on income above poverty? Then we need to tax the higher incomes a LOT more.

Is it fair to tax the money needed to survive?
etc etc

By my personal opinion,

"fair share" means all citizens play the same percentage of their total annual income in taxes.

To the right wing, fair share means everyone pays the same $$$ amount in taxes, so that those who "worked harder" get to keep the difference.

Flat taxes are regressive as hell, because the price of food, gas, clothing and water is the same no matter what your household income, and taxes are levied on all or some in different jurisdictions.
