It's an extremely interesting report. As I read it, I could see how the Columbine killers, and Adam Lanza matched many of the criteria they noted for threat assessment. But they do base the entire report on a threat being made, something as innocuous as an e-mail saying "you're a dead man" to a video posting of themselves with a gun....so a student who makes no threat...what then?
If these folks go next door and steal their neighbor's guns would that solve the problem?
That's like asking if it would change the outcome if he went and bought the guns.
The point is, if the mother wanted guns in her home then they should have been kept somewhere he was unaware of, locked up away from him. I can't say if she truly feared her son as reports have stated, but if she did fear him then having guns at his disposal doesn't exactly point to being too afraid imo.
...none of the professionals told the parents that they thought there was a risk for violence. The parents saw a child who was becoming extremely socially withdrawn, not a child who was lashing out...

He later wrote about another character who said, "I like killing people....especially children." You wonder if a teacher or administrator ever called this to the attention of the parent(s).

There is no way someone with Lanza's diagnosis could have avoided drugs after all those visits with American mental health workers. Tell them that your kid is bored and they will fix him up with the latest pill. This kid was on pills for years. New Yorker is a ruling class magazine and is not going to expose the big Pharma establishment as the cause of this catastrophe. The official strawman is guns and they are going to stick to that story.

Yes that's true. But as the article that kittensparkles posted points out, lots of teenagers write things like that, and 99.9 % of them will not become mass murderers.

Did you notice that the man who wrote the article, Andrew Solomon, is the son of Howard Solomon, the former CEO of Forest Laboratories, the makers of Lexapro and Namenda and Celexa. He has also been referred to as "The poster child for antidepressants" as he shared his own struggle with depression and his (positive) experience with antidepressants.
Bingo. The New Yorker article is a red herring engineered to divert attention away from the violence caused by antidepressants and SSRIs. Another two minutes of hate against guns while another generation is medicated and neutralized. Every mass shooting of the 20 years have been linked to SSRIs. Lanza was on antidepressants from an early age likely paid for by his dad Peter Lanza and sold to him by the authors dad. How ironic.

The coverup of the link to of antidepressants to mass shootings should be a raging scandal and the focus of the Lanza case. Since big Pharma is a power to be reckoned with this scandal is suppressed. Instead we have the not so powerful individual targeted who protects his family with a firearm. Here is a selection if SSRI caused mass shootings from the last fews years.
According to CCHR, SSRIs are the "hallmark of mass shooters," including incidents like the following:
1. Huntsville, Alabama - February 5, 2010: 15-year-old Hammad Memon shot and killed another Discover Middle School student Todd Brown. Memon had a history for being treated for ADHD and depression. He was taking the antidepressant Zoloft and "other drugs for the conditions." He had been seeing a psychiatrist and psychologist.
2. Kauhajoki, Finland - September 23, 2008: 22-year-old culinary student Matti Saari shot and killed 9 students and a teacher, and wounded another student, before killing himself. Saari was taking an SSRI and a benzodiazapine. He was also seeing a psychologist.
3. Dekalb, Illinois - February 14, 2008: 27-year-old Steven Kazmierczak shot and killed five people and wounded 21 others before killing himself in a Northern Illinois University auditorium. According to his girlfriend, he had recently been taking Prozac, Xanax and Ambien. Toxicology results showed that he still had trace amount of Xanax in his system. He had been seeing a psychiatrist.
4. Jokela, Finland - November 7, 2007: 18-year-old Finnish gunman Pekka-Eric Auvinen had been taking antidepressants before he killed eight people and wounded a dozen more at Jokela High School in southern Finland, then committed suicide.
5. Cleveland, Ohio - October 10, 2007: 14-year-old Asa Coon stormed through his school with a gun in each hand, shooting and wounding four before taking his own life. Court records show Coon had been placed on the antidepressant Trazodone.
6. Red Lake, Minnesota - March 2005: 16-year-old Jeff Weise, on Prozac, shot and killed his grandparents, then went to his school on the Red Lake Indian Reservation where he shot dead 7 students and a teacher, and wounded 7 before killing himself.
7. Greenbush, New York - February 2004: 16-year-old Jon Romano strolled into his high school in east Greenbush and opened fire with a shotgun. Special education teacher Michael Bennett was hit in the leg. Romano had been taking "medication for depression". He had previously seen a psychiatrist.
8. Wahluke, Washington - April 10, 2001: Sixteen-year-old Cory Baadsgaard took a rifle to his high school and held 23 classmates and a teacher hostage. He had been taking the antidepressant Effexor.
9. El Cajon, California - March 22, 2001: 18-year-old Jason Hoffman, on the antidepressants Celexa and Effexor, opened fire on his classmates, wounding three students and two teachers at Granite Hills High School. He had been seeing a psychiatrist before the shooting.
10. Williamsport, Pennsylvania - March 7, 2001: 14-year-old Elizabeth Bush was taking the antidepressant Prozac when she shot at fellow students, wounding one.
11. Conyers, Georgia - May 20, 1999: 15-year-old T.J. Solomon was being treated with the stimulant Ritalin when he opened fire on and wounded six of his classmates.
12. Columbine, Colorado - April 20, 1999: 18-year-old Eric Harris and his accomplice, Dylan Klebold, killed 12 students and a teacher and wounded 26 others before killing themselves. Harris was on the antidepressant Luvox. Klebold's medical records remain sealed. Both shooters had been in anger-management classes and had undergone counseling. Harris had been seeing a psychiatrist before the shooting.
13. Notus, Idaho - April 16, 1999: 15-year-old Shawn Cooper fired two shotgun rounds in his school, narrowly missing students. He was taking a prescribed SSRI antidepressant and Ritalin.
14. Springfield, Oregon - May 21, 1998: 15-year-old Kip Kinkel murdered his parents and then proceeded to school where he opened fire on students in the cafeteria, killing two and wounding 25. Kinkel had been taking the antidepressant Prozac. Kinkel had been attending "anger control classes" and was under the care of a psychologist.[14]
Medications didn't cause those shootings. They were caused by disturbed individuals. Guess what they would have done those actions anyway. There is no cover up.
Only reason these shootings don't happen in other countries is that guns are heavily regulated and locked up so teenagers don't have access to them.
"Kinkel had an interest in firearms and explosives from an early age. His father first denied this, but later enrolled him at gun safety courses, buying him a .22 caliber Long rifle and eventually a 9mm Glock handgun when Kip was 15.[1] His classmates described him as strange and morbid. He constantly talked about committing acts of violence. He told friends that he wanted to join the Army after graduation to find out what it was like to kill someone."
"Both Sack and Dr. Orin Bolstad, a clinical psychologist who is an expert on juvenile offenders, said Kinkel exhibited all the "classic signs" of paranoid schizophrenia, a mental illness Kinkel had gone to great lengths to hide because he feared he would be considered abnormal or even mentally retarded.
Kinkel also suffered from hallucinations, hearing "voices" in his head, and from delusions, including his belief that the Walt Disney Co. was trying to take control of the country, and that the government had implanted a computer chip in his brain, Sack and Bolstad said.

CCHR is a bunch of bull. It has no science to back it up and it lies constantly. None of it's claims are based in reality.
