that article is based on a false premise, there is no such thing as a small nuclear war. once one country pops a nuke, everyone is going to pop them, and then we are in a world of crap, and everyone has to take a huge bite of the crap sandwich.

I could see a nuclear war that would remain between India and Pakistan, rbohm, without spreading ..... but if they let loose all their nukes, it would be worse than the OP assumptions. I think India especially has more and bigger nukes than Hiroshima-sized, though I could be wrong.

No one has seriously (at least sane) has proposed to use nuclear winter to combat global warming. The amount of nuclear weapons to start a nuclear winter long enough to produce any extended results would likely cause such damage to humanity that it would likely be the end anyways. The dirt eventually settles, as well as the radiation.

It's a if this happened, what would be the effects.

Yeah, those silly scientists. What have they ever done for humanity?

Let's go back to a time when people believed the sun revolved around the Earth, and diseases were caused by demons.

Easiest way is to get the same guy that started it all to look at a picture of a snow covered mountain on a magazine cover......and write another stupid article.......

That'll fix it.

Yeah, I know. It's just an example of my weird sense of humor. But I do find it ironic to contemplate that we (intelligent people) are all worried about global warming and prepare for it, when it might be global cooling that sneaks around and bites us on the ass.

Actually, according to some very reputable volcanologists, all it will take is for the Super Volcano on Iceland to erupt, or the Yellowstone Caldera to erupt, (or both) and the resulting volcanic winter due to the dust and gasses will put the world into an ice age very handily.
BOTH calderas are considered to be overdue for a major eruption.
If Yellowstone blows, I won't care. We are well within the "dead zone".

i dont. understand that there are many treaties out there, including treaties for countries to come to the aid of another if they are attacked. if pakistan attacked india lets say with a nuke, then indias allies would be bound by treaty to attack pakistan, and then pakistans allies would be bound by treaty to attack pakistans enemies, and then it just gets wider from there, especially if russia and nato or the pacific rim pact countries get into the act. like i said, there is no such thing as a "small" nuclear war. once they start going off, you are going to be hard pressed to stop it.

You'd just stay there and wait to die? One of the few good things about volcanoes is that they give plenty of advance warning. I think most of the US population will suddenly decide to emigrate to Mexico, if they can't get on a plane to another continent.

But then there would be starvation from the loss of crops ...... Mexico might not want to feed us.
