I realize that this country (or so I think) was founded that the majority of people would not have absolute rule over the minority of people. So why does it appear now that the minority are in control?

A national humanist group is suing a New Jersey school district on behalf of a family that believes the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance is discriminatory toward atheist children.

The lawsuit against the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District was filed in state court last month and announced Monday by the American Humanist Association, a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy organization.

The group says the phrase, added in 1954, "marginalizes atheist and humanist kids as something less than ideal patriots." The anonymous plaintiffs say those two words violate the state constitution's right to equal protection.

"Under god" wasn't in the pledge originally and has no business being there IMHO.

Because you're deceiving yourself into believing that lie, perhaps because it makes you feel better about yourself in the context of realizing that things don't always go the way you personally want them to go.

I don't need God mentioned in the Pledge of Allegiance to make me feel better about myself as a Unitarian. I don't know why others, mostly Christians from the indications to that effect given in news accounts of such fights, feel the need to have God mentioned in the Pledge of Allegiance to make themselves feel better about themselves as Christians. It seems to me to indicate either simply a collectively-held personality defect (the need to subjugate Atheists to Christian will), collectively-held insecurity (feeling that if God isn't mentioned outside of church then God doesn't exist outside of church), or collectively-held hubris (the insistence on marking territory like a jungle animal).
