the rules say the horse must be 4 to 26 years old. IMO 26 is too old to be on the streets pulling hundreds of pounds of carriage and humans in 90 degree weather for their 9 hour shift. 15 years would be the cut off for me. in every other horse discipline where there is wear and tear on the feet they have special shoeing practices. rubber insoles and corrective shoeing. is this being practiced? in horse showing at the highest levels ther is drug testing, many unethical barns and riders drug up their animals so they can still compete, is this also going on with the carriage horses? drug testing should be added to the list of regulations.

Have you ever had horses????

When they don't have something to do...it can lead to behaviors like cribbing and wind sucking.....weaving in a stall is common.

It is legal to race a horse on bute if you declare it.

What other drugs would be a problem??

No I have never had horses, and I am not saying these horses shouldn't do anything, I am saying the current conditions are unacceptable.

New Yorkers voted for that fanatical fool.

Now they're getting the government they deserve.

What's the problem here?

If they want to screw up their city, why stop them?

hmmmmm, wonder who the builders of these electric cars are, and how much they have contributed to Mayor Bill de Blasio?

bute (phenybutazone) is basically horse aspirin. while I am far from an expert the horse racing and show jumping industry are full of illegal drugs given to horses. in horse racing diuretics/lasix are used to get a horses weight down before a race. lasixs are also used to flush out the system so other drugs go undetected. there is a long list of trainers who have been caught giving illegal drugs to their race horses. even the well respected wayne lucas. xylazine a muscle relaxant and anesthesia medication as well as clenbuterol a steriod as well as butorphanol a narcotic are a favorite use drugs for rick dutrow a trainer of breeders cup horses. the man has been suspended for class 3 butorphanol. thankfully he has been banned now from racing for ten years.

and a list of banned drugs for show jumpers

so yes drugging horses is huge in the industry by unscrupulous owners and trainers. I wouldn't doubt the same thing goes on in the carriage industry.

Just conversation.

I doubt there is little we can do to stop it.

Yes. We the people do get the government that we voted for. Unfortunately, s*** rolls down hill, and this progressive big goverment bulls*** tends to filter into other places like my state! "Gee.... look what NYC or San Francisco did... let's make it a law here!"
