I agree with this.

Let's get rid of Columbus Day all together.

Old Cristoforo Colombo was a slave trader and a thief. We do not need to celebrate him. If we want to honor an Italian, why not Leonardo DaVinci or Michelangelo or Guiseppe Verdi instead?

Excuse me, I didn't know this was a white conservative country. But why should white conservatives be criticized over a past they played no role in anyway? It would be silly to assume that all the early settlers were conservatives anyway.

Because those guys never set foot in America - and not everybody likes paintings, sculpture, or opera.

How about Amadeo Giannini (founder of Bank of America)?

Everyone likes money.

Guess what? All those people are friggin dead! Columbus and the rest that followed wiped them off the face of the planet, enslaved them, butchered, raped, infected them, eradicating them like rats. Too friggin bad! you can't do a thing about it can you? Neither can I but I tell you what I'd much rather live in the world Columbus helped create than anywhere else!

Okay ... about the Father of the Italian Republic - Garibaldi - he actually lived in the US for a while.

Fact is the Europeans come over here and many were Christian.. soooo...you believe they removed by force others that were here?? I don't think so..

How much impact did he have on the United States?

Giannini was a pretty cool dude - he made banks accessible to all people.

How about an Italian-American?

We can celebrate John Gotti, who held an annual community Fourth of July celebration in Queens while he was a capo in and boss of the Gambino Family.

Harrier always thought that the Democratic connection with organized crime was rather telling.
