I was unaware the western hemisphere had "indigenous people".
Who are these people who evolved in what would later be called the Americas?
Can they breed with us African sourced peoples? What do they look like?
I remember reading in the National Geographic magazine as a child about how the Western Hemisphere might have become populated by migrations of Pacific island peoples following the Aleutian Chain and working their way south and settling the North American Continent. In any case, they are not thought to have been native to this continent.
Was that the ethnic cleansing that the Indians did to each other that you're referring to? Because they were always at war and they would kill every last member of the opposing tribes, babies included.

Don't you think that 77 years of celebrating the ethic cleansing that occurred here, in the interest of establishing the states that eventually became our nation, is enough? Or is your point that ethnic cleansing is a good thing, as long as it clears the way for the ethnicities you like to prevail? Or are you in the camp that refuses to admit the truth, and thereby deny that what happened here was indeed systematic forced removal of the pre-Columbian nations from these territories with the intent of creating territories inhabited by people of mostly European extraction, and of mostly Christian persuasion?

Does it matter in 2014 except as a part of history? My people; the Irish, were treated some kind of bad by the English even as late as 1922. Well; we had to make get OUR act together like cut down the heavy drinking, the hooliganism and so on BEFORE we earned respect. It is what it is.
Too; many American Indians talk about "Great Spirit", "Grandfather" and so on. So please tell me HOW the "evil white man won? Maybe because the Indian gods WANTED the white man in what is now the US, Canada and LatAm.
But the fact that genocide, widespread rape and murder, ruthless slavery, and complete oppression forced upon those people (who lacked armor or weapons anywhere nearly as effective as the Europeans) was heartily promoted by Europeans is enough to not commemorate that day as a joyous discovery.
Because the Aztecs weren't in the process of doing the exact same thing to their southern neighbors in the 16th century right?
I have no clue why people celebrate holidays. They're really stupid. All they do is screw up the normal business hours of establishments.
I liked them when I was paid double time and a half for working or getting a paid holiday for not working them. I can do without them now but without Christmas, capitalism is dead.
