Two Alaska State Troopers were killed by a father and son using an assault rifle following what amounted to a misdemeanor complaint. The two troopers...both government agents were slain by a 19 year old wielding a semi-automatic assault rifle. Heres the rest of the story.

They used a machine gun?

ON EDIT:

Okay, I read the article, it wasn't a machine gun.

Back to the important stuff. The kid who shot them is in custody, as is his father who was also involved. What do they have to say for themselves? What excuse does the kid have for killing uniformed officers of the law? Did the officers attack him or his dad? Any witnesses? What do they say?

Did the officers have family/friends? My profoundest sympathy goes out to them, regardless of "how" it happened.

That's terrible. In these remote villages you have basically a glorified mall cop full-time and a trooper who flies in from time to time and they're on their own.

My heart goes out to the troopers and their families.

OP, I haven't seen where they used selective fire weapons so I'm not sure why you felt the need to even go there.

Unfortunately dead is dead even if the criminals used bolt action/lever action big game rifles that are as common as snow in Alaska given the dangerous animals there.

"Then, Kangas' 19-year-old son, Nathanial Lee Kangas, shot both troopers with a semiautomatic rifle" The OP is just repeating what the article said.

Sorry for the cops, but they were not shot with a assault rifle,
it was a semi automatic, that fires a single bullet everytime the trigger is pulled, that looks like a assault rifle, where as a assault rifle is fully automatic and fires for as long as the trigger is held down, is very expensive to own, no new ones made for civilians since 1986, and require the owners to be finger printed, checked out by the FBI, and pay a $200 fee, unless you are part of the Govt, then they are free.
Oh I forgot, the only time a legal machine gun was used in a crime, it was committed by a cop....

Thank you for the clarification...maybe they can plead the two murders down to manslaughter since it was on the semi-auto function.

Hmmm....this amounted to troopers going onto the rez. When alcohol and/ or drugs are involved in domestic on the rez, cripple caution is needed. There is no such thing as a happy drunk on a reservation, and theresidents are usually well armed. And there "safety officer is not?
Wow, this was bad JuJu all the way around. Two dead on a damn domestic call. Gotta love what that fire water does to people.
