Nephew in the case of dementia concern, may have been better off getting ahold of her gun rather than firstly worrying about the keys to her damn car. A car can be disabled without needing the keys.
What did he think was going to happen when cops responded to his 911 over "threats with firearm involved" call?
Did he assume cops have a special cape they wear for 93 year olds? Did he assume the cop would just stare at the muzzle of that weapon and talk soothingly to the old girl. Gotta tell ya I wouldn't want any cops working for me risking/wasting their lives in such a manner.

What the frack is a cop trained to do when being confronted with a person threatening with a firearm? Demand they drop it, but if they don't, what then?
A no win situation for this female cop ~ she shows up, is confronted with a person brandishing a weapon in a threatening manner, orders the person to drop the gun, after non-compliance opens fire. Nephew who called better stand up and tell it like it happened without falling back on making the cop the scapegoat to assuage his guilt over maybe not dealing with his aunt in the most effective manner.

This seems to be a pattern all over our Country, and in some cases many innocent victims being killed.

How about if she refused to put down a gun she was holding and made threatening move with it - could you think of that? Bc that's what initial reports are saying. If that is true, then she does not get a free pass just bc she is old. You resist arrest and aim a gun at a cop, you better understand that it's game on and they will defend themselves.

I always thought of a gun as an equalizer.
But, nowadays, cops perceive it as giving the holder supernatural powers.

You have to figure it was pretty serious if the nephew feared enough to call 911 on her.
DPS refused to renew her license and she went postal on her nephew when he tried to get the car keys.
We must remember that being 93 years old does not necessarily mean one is dotage. My great uncle was doing very well until he died at age 98. Indeed, he had been out to a bar that night, and was walking home when he slipped on fell on ice, being stranded till he was found a few hours later. He went to the hospital, seemed to be doing well, but died suddenly when he got out of bed and went into the restroom.
My mother, age 86 (and niece of said uncle) is a very healthy 86, and she could, if she chose to, shoot the begeebers out of anyone.
It rather sounds like this woman was in pretty good physical shape (perhaps not mentally, but certainly able to wield a gun).
