Lots of opportunity though for the same politically connected contractors to build cut-the-corner shoddy school facilities for inflated prices that conveniently start to fall apart soon enough to qualify to do it all over again with other people's tax money.
The NJ supreme court is well meaning but has done an absolutely tremendous amount of harm to the state.
As for the school themselves .... it's like you said. You can make everything brand new with all the bells and whistles, absolutely amazing athletic and extracurricular facilities, etc., and it makes for a nice student experience (who doesn't like nice things) but does absolutely squat to foster learning and academic improvement.
You're not kidding:

This month, the Schools Construction Corporation, the state agency financing the campus, is expected to suspend work on some of the 40 projects it is developing because it has run out of money.
Quote:
The schools corporation was created in 2002, four years after the State Supreme Court ruled that students in the poorest city schools should have buildings and resources comparable to those in the wealthiest suburbs. The State Legislature has approved $8.6 billion in school construction bonds, setting aside $6 billion for the poorer districts.
Quote:
.....a task force appointed by Gov. Jon S. Corzine recommended that the corporation be given an additional $3.25 billion to finish building schools. Many state legislators have rejected that proposal, criticizing the corporation’s spending.
Quote:
In a 2005 audit, the state’s inspector general, Mary Jane Cooper, concluded that the schools corporation was susceptible to “mismanagement, fiscal malfeasance, conflicts of interest and waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars,”
Quote:
Officials said the school’s brick facade would have to be torn down because of mold contamination in the walls, a job that will cost more than $5 million...
(in reference to a school in Neptune, NJ)
There's another reference to a school that was built on top of contaminated soil.
Is there a link to this because I would be interested in reading it.
Explainer: What's Become of Zuckerberg
$48 million: NTU teachers contract, including $31 million in retroactive pay to teachers and the balance for new performance bonuses to “highly effective” teachers and those working in high-needs schools.
$3.5 million: New rewards administered by the Newark Education Trust for principals working in high-needs schools and showing highest achievement growth.
The foundation also continues to pay $10,000 grants to individual teachers or teams of teachers proposing innovative and promising strategies.
Newark is one hot mess rivaled only by Detroit for an shining example of how crony, union loving, left/Democratic polices can do to a once glorious city. One has lost count of how many mayors and other politicians of that place have been or are in local or state custody on graft, theft and other charges related to their office.
As to how MZ got snookered into giving his money to Newark, again am going with the Corey Booker "story". After Obama the liberal left/Democrats just love Mr. Booker and where possible like to throw things his way. Though not illegal plenty of funds for his senate run came from across the river in NYS/NYC. Including from fundraisers given by Bloomberg and current state AG Eric Schneiderman.
What is not to love about the guy? A good-looking, high toned, educated, and intelligent AA man that rose from "adversity" to become a player in NJ politics. Pro-gay rights (CB refused to perform any marriages as mayor long as SSM was illegal in NJ), looks comfortable at cocktail parties in Princeton or the Hamptons..... Nothing more to say....
This is the perfect example of "you can't buy love". Just on an economic scale.
Throw money at it that will fix it. Idiots run amok.
Leave us not delude ourselves. Everyone in Newark government circles was rubbing their hands in gleeful anticipation when the news broke about MZ's massive "donation". While Corey Booker was standing side by side with the very wealthy Mr. Zuckerman thanking him for his donation and making all sorts of promises and photo op sound bites about "investment in our children's future", those that know how the game is played in Newark politics were planning on how to get their share. And they did.

Oh boy, the "Schools Construction Corporation". That brings back bad memories of billions (with a B) spent on a boondoggle. We NJ suburbanites are nothing more than sheep to be fleeced.

So you do believe that blacks are just in inherently inferior because they are black?
