They deserve it for the truly wonderful job they are doing, or think they are doing! To quote F Scott Fitzgerald: "Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft where we are hard, and cynical where we are trustful, in a way that, unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand. They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves. Even when they enter deep into our world or sink below us, they still think that they are better than we are. They are different."

"Wealthy members of Congress are living the high life at taxpayer expense, while most of the rest of the country continues to suffer through one of the worst economic periods in our lifetimes.

Millions of dollars are being spent on “office expenses” and on the hair care needs of Senators, but very little is being done to stop this abuse.

It is almost as if the American people have just accepted that this is how “big government” is supposed to operate."

I've said the 1% are running the country.
Now do you believe me ?

He who has the money gets to make the rules.

All those "greedy CEO's" and "bankers" can't make the laws themselves.
They need proxies to do it for them.

Sweet job, isn't it? Amazing pensions, full-time pay for part-time work, personal and office expense accounts, lifetime medical, people desperate to throw money at you to buy your vote...don't trust a politician, any of them...ever.

Must be some real slackers in Congress for it to have taken this long.

Um, there is a simple solution...why not do something about it and vote someone else into office?

It is not some super secret that a majority of the time the better funded candidate wins elections.

91% of the time the better-financed candidate wins. Don’t act surprised.

Which is why in other democracies around the world big money donors are restricted from buying candidates like they are in the US. One can either vote for the candidate that is not better funded, or wealthier, (better stopgap measure) or take big money out of these elections. Americans can act in order to do something about it...or whine like little toddlers about conspiracy nonsense.

These candidates often do feel superior, and I would as well, if people sit around jawing about how horrible it is that wealthy people win elections...and then do nothing about it. That the people who are the most irate about it are the ones sitting at their computers being internet commandos instead of doing anything for political change. Don't expect others to carry the banner, and man the posts, for change you want.

Sorry. A million bucks is nothing.

I am frankly shocked it is only 50%. I suspect that is a lie or some other manipulation of information.
It's got to be higher.

How many times have you voted for a Progressive incumbent but then go on to rant about inequality, offshoring, outsourcing, etc?

Is the rate of new congressional millionaires exceeding the rate of the general public?

Yes, it's 'nothing'... to a billionaire, but not to the other 99%.
