Get used to the idea.

They worked for that billion dollar pie, and they deserve a piece

Face it...you sports haters have lost..
Sports haters?

Harrier is a college football fan (his idea of
heaven is college football season combined with a political campaign - Fall 2014 should be awesome - midterm elections and the first year post BCS).

He opposes paying student-athletes.

They are there to get an education and they pay for it by being a scholarship athlete.

Paying college athletes will be the death of college sports - to be fair, non scholarship athletes in sports that generate minimal revenue (think cross country or gymnastics) would have to be paid, and the costs would cause programs to implode.

Harrier opposes payment precisely because he is a fan.

Education needs to come first.

It's his raison d'etre.
He's unable to post with making it about political divides. It could be a thread about recipes or kittens, and he'll howl about the liberals.

Not true.

Harrier has posted in the Food and Cats forum and not mentioned politics.

This is the Politics and Other Controversies forum.

Are you really saying that politics should not be discussed here?

Yea, a group of bureaucrats picking their idea of who the best teams are (or rather who they want to see play each other rather than best teams).

Every playoff from now on is going to be Oregon, Florida State, Ohio State, and the SEC champ.

Man, it's a no brainer.

Just getting a scholarship was a defensible position back when Knute Rockne was coaching. Hell, he probably had to paint his own football field...And he certainly wasn't making more than the governor of Indiana.

Saban makes 7 million a year, and his players are supposed to struggle to afford a pizza?

There's just too much money in college sports to keep the athletes with lint in their pockets.

Aint no body at Alabama struggling for pizza. They have a meal plan, plus team meals.

On a side note....does it not strike anybody as sad and ironic that African-American studies, which celebrates black culture and identity, has become the catalyst for African-Americans to cheat the system?

Struggling to buy pizza? Terrelle Pryor struggled for those tats didn't he?

Maybe Jameis Winston shouldn't have blown his illegal recruitment money then he wouldn't have had to boost crab legs from Publix....

These dudes ain't struggling

Why are you butthurt about this issue? It doesn't affect you. Just watch the games and let the chips fall where they fall.

You guys just hate athletes...that's all.

Guess that's how guys are that couldn't play a sport.
I'm not "butthurt" about it. I went to UT-Austin, a college sports powerhouse. I watch Longhorn football games.

I'm just not going to say it's OK to call someone a student when they are essentially an employee who is there to make other people money. Universities make billions off "student" athletes and some of them...not all, but some of them...are SINOs (students in name only) who are only there to play and rarely if ever attend classes...and if they do, they are given their grades on a silver platter.

They're being taken advantage of. How many of them actually ever end up in professional sports? And what do they have to show for their efforts if they fail to make the big time? A lot of them are getting screwed.
