I am no longer a fan of Obama but to blame him or Bush for for the rising costs of barbecues is going a little too far. Not to say Federal policies don't have an effect but I think rising prices have more to do population growth and the huge amount of economic growth going on overseas, especially in China and India. Also someone mentioned environmental factors like a drought.
Your comments about cpi and core inflation indicate to me that you are in fact uninformed. You do not seem to understand WHY core inflation is used.
Core doesn't include food and energy. We agree. These items are two of the biggest expenses for a household. For the press to continually say there is no inflation is dishonest to Americans.

Don't be naive. Obama is waging war with the condiment industry!

Do you understand also that the CPI inflation numbers are almost identical to core inflation numbers over time? They may bounce above or below core inflation, but they tend to follow the exact same rate as core inflation over time?
No one is claiming there is no inflation, in fact if there was no inflation we would have some pretty seriously bad economic results from it!
We're maintaining a pretty solid 2% inflation rate this year. Theres a LOT of arguments that 3 or even 4% would be better for us.

How is it dishonest? Inflation for all items is 2.2% and 2% when you exclude food and energy.

CBS: Real inflation rate is 8%
Forget about that 2% touted by the White House – as if you didn’t know, prices are soaring. Not dissimilar to the real rate of unemployment at 15%. I don’t think most people believe the big lie – not for anyone who buys groceries or gas.
No, you said the government does not include food or energy in the inflation figures, which is false. I said only the core inflation excludes food and energy.
Browse this list. Inflation is listed for all items and then broken down by each individual item.

Only if you believe in flying monkeys. Tell a housewife at the grocery store that inflation on food is low. You better be quick on your feet.
