Of the 2,258 peer-reviewed papers that have been published on the subject of climate change between November 2012 and December 2013, representing the positions of 9,136 authors, exactly one of those, written by a single Russian scientist, rejected the idea that climate change is caused by human activity. But none of this has stopped or even slowed down the professional skeptics. In fact the Heartland Institute just announced the 9th International Conference on Climate Change at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The event is being billed as an “International Gathering of Scientists Skeptical of Man-Caused Global Warming.”
Previous versions of this conference have been heavily funded by ExxonMobil, the Koch Brothers and the conservative Scaife Foundation, receiving as much as $67 million from these groups. This year’s event is likely to be little different. Which, of course gets us to the point of circle-jerk events like this one. It’s big oil behind the scenes, keeping that steady drumbeat of doubt going. Doubt and inaction go hand in hand.
Nick Cohen at the Guardian claims that the deniers have already won. Perhaps the fact that we are even having this conversation in 2014 supports his assertion. Of course, the part that they won’t figure out until it’s too late is that if they win, we all lose. The fact that by doing all they can to suppress effective action on greenhouse gas emissions means, of course, that they are gambling with the future of the planet, in hopes that the one guy out of 9,136 was right. What better place to do that than Las Vegas? Undeterred By Facts, Climate Deniers Will Carry the Torch to Las Vegas

I'm curious which of the denier responses will be most frequent in this thread.
1) The Powell paper has "bad methodology"
2) The scientists fudge the data so that they can get more grant money
3) The scientists are marxist/liberals who are trying to bring down the fossil fuel industry
4) The skeptical scientists are being muzzled
5) Blog citations/links discrediting the scientists work or citing conspiracy among the scientists.

No one is saying CO2 doesn't increase surface temperatures or that man's activities are not increasing the CO2 in the atmosphere.
The issue is whether or not man's tiny contribution to atmospheric CO2 will have the negative effects alarmist claim and if the rest of us are willing to allow ourselves to be manipulated by fear mongers.
We know that past predictions of future warming have failed to materialize and that the same scientists who so confidently predicted temperature increases in the past admit to having no explanation for the present lack of warming even as CO2 levels continue to steadily increase.
How do I take these predictions of gloom and doom seriously when past predictions have failed on such a grand scale and they can't fully explain why they were wrong?
Obviously the warming effect of CO2 is much less than the alarmists would have us believe.
Also as CO2 increases, the warming effect diminishes exponentially and many other factors are in play.
That Earth's CO2 levels were once 7000 ppm without a runaway greenhouse effect should be enough to convince most people that 400 ppm is nothing to worry about.
Of course the alarmists are busy adjusting their computer models and revising recorded temperatures from 100 years ago because they are unwilling to accept that their theory exaggerates CO2's impact on the climate.
Last week, President Barack Obama announced America's boldest move yet to tackle climate change. Then China's lead climate envoy, Xie Zhenhua, confirmed China was considering how it might implement an overall limit on its emissions.
This was reported by Bloomberg as the clearest indication yet of the country's willingness to join a global agreement that would, for the first time, limit emissions in all nations. Also, Finland has passed ambitious climate change laws limiting its greenhouse gas emissions. http://www.heraldscotland.com/commen...uture.24453019

Actually most AGW deniers are saying exactly that.

Are you really willing to risk your grandchildren's future on your belief that all those scientists are wrong?

A lot of the prediction are happening now, like increased flooding in some areas, drought in others, more intense heat waves, melting ice, rising sea levels, etc....These are indisputable facts, and there has been no pause in warming...That is a lie.

Do you know what effect that had on the temperature of the planet?....During the last interglacial period, 125,000 years ago, sea level was at least several meters higher than at present, so what do you suppose it was the last time CO2 was 7000ppm during the Cambrian period?

So you are saying that climate scientists are alarmists?...Do I have that right?

you do also realize that 125,000 yearsa ago the global mean temperature was WARMER than today dont you? you also do realize that 75,000 years ago the world was forced into an ice with the eruption of the super volcano toba right?
