Quick questions for all you lawyers out there:

What is the most senior nonpolitical prosecutorial role covering New York City?

Obviously the state AG and city DA are elected and the USAG for the Southern District is a political appointee.

A friend of mine is writing a thriller about a publicity hungry prosecutor (think Spitzer or Giuliani) who makes a run for Governor on the Republican ticket, but is murdered by a Wall Street tycoon she prosecuted.

The criteria are:

- Senior enough to be involved in high profile cases and in the media's eye
- Not elected
- A career appointment or at least an appointment that could be plausibly filled by a Republican/Republican leaning lawyer in today's environment.
