It's not really "news." Black unemployment has always been much higher than White unemployment.

Blacks are still trying to economically recover from over 300 years of oppression by whites, in which they were forced to work for free. They're then still trying to recover from another 100 years of institutional segregation by whites simply because whites didn't want blacks to work for them or along with them (as whites felt blacks were "lesser than").

There have been strides made, and obviously some personal responsibility should be taken now that the playing field has been leveled, but you can't ignore the impact of blacks not having a pot to **** in for so long has had on their economic achievement relative to whites.

Jews were oppressed, 1/3 were wiped out. But that's clearly no excuse for them as they own more wealth percentage wise.

If "recovering" means dropping out of school and having kids young -- which almost always leads to unemployability or poverty -- okay then.

It's too far past that era for excuses of blame whitey.

Actually - I think we are our own worst enemy right now.

It ain't cool in many black communities to do your school work and get an education.

Also - many public leaders who are black use the rank and file black people for their own benefit.

Example - years ago Rainbow Push sued FedEx for its hiring practices. It got settled out of court for $3mil. Did the hiring practices change? Jackson's group got the money though...

Example - Obama will want black people protesting in the streets or intimidating white people, but he won't inspire us to work and support ourselves. The jobs tour with the black Canadian bus never went to a black community.

When has Obama ever wanted black people intimidating white people?

Really? Put it back in the deck. Some blacks career planning include rap star, basketball star, football star. When you appear for a job interview with an angry and confrontational attitude, speaking ebonics, and dressed like a cast member of a rap video,...you're less likely to get a job. It's bad when blacks in school study hard are accused of acting white and are tortured by others of their race. Those who don't act in such ways are far more likely to get a job. True, there are cases in which they not being hired is about race, but not as often to account for the wide gap.

And you've had a Black President for six years now!

Herman Caine was much ridiculed for being head of Godfather's Pizza--but he got there through his own merits. He took a failing pizza chain and turned it around. Before that he did the same thing with the Philadelphia Burger King franchise.

There's a book you should read: "Acres of Diamonds". It's the story of a man who left his home to search the whole world looking for diamonds. He found none and died penniless. Meanwhile his daughter back at home picked up a round rock down by the river. It turned out to be a diamond of great value. The home he'd left to search for diamonds was sitting on a great diamond mine. The story goes on to explain that each of us is sitting on a diamond mine. If we will just supply the things the people around us want we, too, could be wealthy.

Blacks are as tallented as anyone else if they will only apply their tallents in the right way.

Consider these stereotypes:

The Black sports star. Very few Blacks will ever play professional sports--but sports-minded people are often good at sales.

The Black drug dealer. If he just chose a different product he'd have a profitable legitimate business.

The Black thief. The only thing that stands between him and a profitable business is his source of supply.

The Black musician. Very few Blacks are going to become famous recording artists--but musically tallented people often have a knack for electronics.

The Black writer. Literary-minded people often have a tallent for masonry. You may starve as a poet but thrive as a brick-layer--and brick and stone can be beautiful.

I mean that's not new. Every year since they started tracking the unemployment rate in 1972. The black unemployment rate is rarely under 10% and is always double the white unemployment rate. So this is the norm.
