Consider the two as the following: (1) A big government offering more services will of necessity require more taxes to perform and carry out these services.

(2) A smaller government that performs less services will not require the revenue to perform and carry out services for which it doesn't perform.

Which of the two governments would you prefer and explain your choice.

A big government for many reasons.

1. Government can provide services that private companies either can't or won't. Yes, there are private schools, and private neighborhood developments with HOAs, and PMCs, but they're not as widespread and they are usually outside the price range of most people.

2. Related to #1: Government doesn't have shareholders, or a target for earnings-per-share that they must meet or the world will end. Many economists will tell you that government budget deficits are acceptable for periods of time, in order to get the economy running again. This means better judgement as well: A corporation wouldn't care about ecological consequences if it didn't have an immediate negative impact, but the government does.

Do you believe that since it is the people who are benefiting from said services that the revenue collected by the government to pay for said services should be borne by only those receiving the service. In other words were I availing my self to a particular service but you have no need of that particular service yourself, should you be required to pay for my usage of that particular service. Say it was gender specific or sexual preference specific or something like that.

Small federal government. Mid-sized state government. States can collect revenue and use them within their state as they see fit. However, federal revenue and spending should be for essential federal programs to support the constitution and keep the country safe and sound.
