How do you think this will shake out? My bet is that the cop won't get charged.

I'm tired of the hypocrisy - Another K9 killed after being left in a car by his partner, page 1

If a K9 is clamped onto your leg and you kick it trying to get loose, you're charged with assault on an officer. The general population is told to view police K9's as official officers. If you punch one, kick one, kill one, or look at one cross-eyed it's the same consequences as doing it to a human officer.

So why are cops, the K9's partner and caretaker, allowed to leave them to die in vehicles without being charged with killing an officer?? There was a story last month about an incident, but that's not what set off this rant. No, what got me going was an incident that occurred on Sept. 28 in Ohio.

Not that it is good enough but at least the department did something this time. As I recall in the one I posted, nothing was done.

As I noted in the other thread, how does this police dept ever bring charges against someone else for doing this?

I also do not believe for a second that "Sgt. Harrison cared deeply about Beny."

I have owned dogs all my life, and never once have I ever left my dogs in a vehicle longer than 20 minutes, and even then my windows are rolled down an inch or two (except during the winter). If this "COP killer" actually cared, he would not have left his dog in his vehicle for 4+ hours.

People like this self-centered jerk should never be allowed to own any pets, for any reason, ever.

If I was a cop, I'd refuse to partner with him on general principles.

I think 20 minutes is too long.

...snipped...When it’s 85 degrees, the temperature inside the car increases to 102 degrees in 10 minutes, and 120 degrees in 20 minutes. And keeping the windows open barely helps....snipped...
I hate when this happens. We had it happen here in our county in Florida, no less. Guess how hot it got ? I think they should have to pay for a new dog, as well and, not be able to work with another one.

You are trying to compare Florida's summer temperatures to Alaska? Seriously?

If it reaches 70°F during the summer where I live, it is an unusually hot day. I am far more concerned about my dogs doing their business in my vehicle, or becoming dehydrated, than I am about them getting heat stroke in Alaska.

Twenty minutes may be too long where you live, but not in Alaska. Not by a long shot.
