Let's take several examples, starting with the war on drugs:
NEGRO COCAINE "FIENDS" ARE A NEW SOUTHERN MENACE - Murder and Insanity Increasing Among Lower Class Blacks Because They Have Taken to "Sniffing" Since Deprived of Whisky by Prohibition. - View Article - NYTimes.com

And moving along to gun control:
https://www.firearmsandliberty.com/cramer.racism.html

The original impetus of gun control was keeping guns out of the hands of blacks. North Carolina officials searched for a way to deny gun ownership to Robert F Williams, civil rights activist in 50's-60's NC. Williams was an NRA member, ex-Marine, and avid shooter who used guns to defend against the KKK. NC was unsuccessful in finding legal means to deny him guns, but eventually did succeed in setting him up on kidnapping charges, which were eventually overturned thanks to Richard M Nixon

Moving along to prostitution--it was generally tolerated for the first century or so of America's existence. In 1912 progressives passed the Mann Act to outlaw prostitution. Pro boxer Jack Johnson was among the first to be charged under the Mann Act for having relations with a white female.

The modern nanny state and Democratic party was built upon a foundation of racism.

The Mann Act was not only intended to be used against blacks - it was also intended to be used against Asians, likewise with the drug laws.

Anti-Asian stereotypes in the early 20th century were similar to anti-black stereotypes of the same period - Asian men were considered to be violent, crime-prone, and a sexual threat to white women. It's interesting how those stereotypes disappeared, and how Asian stereotypes made a 180 degree turn.

Wutitiz:

Familiar with a book called "A Renegade History Of The United States" about this subject?

"The simplest way to remove this added menace it seems simple, theoretically, at least -- would be to keep whisky out of the low-class negro's hands by legislating it out of existence as far as he was concerned. And, so Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, and West Virginia passed laws intended to abolish the saloon and keep whisky and the negro separated."

Back then they knew it was a "low class" problem too.

The subtitle of that article you linked to is: Murder and Insanity Increasing Among LOWER CLASS Blacks Because They Have Taken to "Sniffing" Since Deprived of Whisky by Prohibition.

Not nanny state rooted racism. They knew it was socially lower class individuals (the article mentions poor whites as well and called them on par with blacks who had the same behavior) who overindulged and became "fiends" for drugs and alcohol and they make a distinction between them, obvious because they said "Lower Class" Blacks and also mentions Whites who do the same thing.

I don't think the OP read the entire article and instead jumped only at the attention grabbing headline of it.

Prohibition affected all Americans, wealthy and poor. Only the wealthy could get their hands on all the whisky they could want. The poor resorted to cocaine which was a lot easier to get back in the 20's and 30's.

The entire country was founded on the backs of slaves. Cant get much more racist than that.

Some states came to their senses sooner than others. In any case, Republicans after freeing the slaves had no stomach for the difficulties of Reconstruction and abandoned blacks to the Jim Crow laws and segregationist tactics of the South unless they followed them out west to battle Indians.

BTW middle class whites during the same time were using morphine prescribed by their doctors in lieu of alcohol.

Methinks someone needs to brush up on their history.

So ..... should we have a poll/vote to "change" the "Politics and Controversies" forum on City Data to "Racists & Guns"? That appears to be what all the threads are about other than the sticky on Corruption.

This is tiring .... to say the least.

I think you all are whipping a horse that has been dead for about 84 years now. Also, slavery died in
1864. You going to fight the Civil War all over again ?
