no, i am NOT upset that reid made the comments, nor apologized for them, that doesnt matter whether he did or didnt either way. what matter, and what went way over your head, is the double standard in dealing with things like this. reid can say anything racist he wants, and no one says much of anything. the media ignores it like it didnt happen, and when reid does decide to apologize, everyone says well its no big deal.
but had a republican said the SAME THING, he would have been excoriated in the press, and the calls for his resignation would have been deafening, and then when they apologized for the comments, it again would not have mattered, because th emedia would have proclaimed apology not accepted and you have to resign.
do you not see the difference here?
I remember when Reid's 'light-skinned' with 'no Negro dialect' comment about Obama came to light. Al Sharpton, James Clyburn quickly fell in line in accepting Reid's apology and expressing their support for Reid. I doubt that there was any such slack cut when George Allen said "macaca.' Sharpton was probably the first to stand up and bellow over that one.
This shows that these dust-ups are really not even about race at all--they're purely about partisanship. What they really have done is to politicize civil rights and MLK's dream, which is really an execrable thing to do.
There may very well have been those calls, but they would be just as PC and stupid.
The best thing republicans can do here is live by the standards you claim to hold dear, because if not, you are just setting yourself up for the next " *******" or "Tar baby" comment, with the big difference being Reid was joking while your guys are serious.
The attitude which you display here is precisely the problem. There may indeed have been those calls - and they are ignored with a guy like Reid and spell certain doom for a Republican. The idea that your guys don't really mean it and the other side always does is called prejudice. The practice of giving one group a pass based on that prejudice is called hypocrisy.
im still waiting on you to post the example of the Conservative posting a similar joke to Reid's and being asked to resign by the media.
Lol, Trent Lott is calling you Lott gave up his seat after endless badgering from the dems & yes, the PRESS ! A true lesson in the "double standard" that does not exist.

and governor evan mecham was pushed by the press to resign after making a joke, though eventually he was impeached and removed from office for obstruction of justice and misuse of governemnt funds, that were later found to be private funds, thus he should never have been impeached in the first place, but that was also political.

Thus.....he never left his seat after some bad press, but left by other means. Got it.

Trent Lott isnt calling me because Trent Lott didnt resign because he made a joke about a racial minority having the same last names.
so again, show me an example of the double standard.

That is nothing close to what i said. And there is no hypocrisy
Are you honestly telling me calling someone a tar baby is equal to saying a lot of asian people have the last name Wong ????????
you people are so deep in trying to find a gotcha moment that you dont even realize your argument makes no sense.
You are sitting here comparing a joke about common last names to someone using a racial slur to describe people of that race.
The average Tea Partier makes this many slanders before its noon and look at all the heck thats heaped on them. It took Reid 10 years and liberals want to give him a break? Nobody gives the Tea Party a break and they slander minorities from the time they get up until they go to bed.
I'm going to guess that Democrats would give him at least nine lives, if not infinity. If a Mitch McConnell had made even one of these gaffes, the WAPO, NYT, NBC, ABC, CBS, and NPR would have piled on like William 'Refrigerator' Perry. If a George Allen had made even one such gaffe...well he did, and it terminated his political career.
How many times does a Democratic Majority Leader have to screw up and apologize before he gets the boot from Democrats? We don't know the answer, but we do know that it is somewhere greater than three.
Like you sayz the left wing main stream give unlimited free passes to the vermin.

Trent Lott made a joke about "race". Same difference. The joke does not have to mimic the other person's joke word for word to be an example of the same principal. Wow....
