And why do animals in separate cages contract the virus from each other when they never had contact?
The methods used to clean the cages aerosolized (created droplets) the virus in the pigs & monkeys study. A monkeys & monkeys study by the same researcher showed no airborne transmission. The virus can be spread in large droplets. Just through the air like measles, no. All viruses mutate. Some strains can be more or less virulent than others. The amount of mutation needed for Ebola to become truly airborne (like measles) would in essence create a different virus. It would not be Ebola any more.

I am no medical expert, so it is unclear to me whether or not a travel ban will truly be effective. However, I completely understand nations that have chosen that route. It does seem, however, that the reason why those three countries are struggling terribly is due to lack of resources. Hopefully in time the virus will be contained and an effective vaccine will be found.

There is a significant possibility that unless there is a huge effort now, the virus will eventually spread far beyond where it is now.
Yes!

Beyond humanitarian reasons for assisting the countries battling Ebola, it is in the best interest of the US (and the entire world) to do so. The vaccines are still experimental but small amounts will be available soon.

Travel bans stand the risk of causing poor people to lose their jobs and leave the affected countries looking for ways to feed themselves. That is a simple as walking across the border. No passport needed.

If and when Ebola goes airborne, then we WILL have a problem. For the time being, the threat is not as great as the public perceives.

c. false- failure to quarantine (this is US military policy) or restrict travel IS OBAMA'S FAULT. Other western nations have done so- why not the US?

The influenza of 1918 was highly virulent, but it was still influenza and transmitted like influenza before 1918 and since then. It did not suddenly become airborne.

The survival of Ebola for 50 days is dried in culture media and stored at 4 °C, information intended for labs.

Ebolavirus - Pathogen Safety Data Sheets

The virologists do not predict that Ebola will ever become airborne. A single point mutation could not do it.

What we are not afraid to say about Ebola virus

"When it comes to viruses, it is always difficult to predict what they can or cannot do. It is instructive, however, to see what viruses have done in the past, and use that information to guide our thinking. Therefore we can ask: has any human virus ever changed its mode of transmission?

The answer is no. We have been studying viruses for over 100 years, and we’ve never seen a human virus change the way it is transmitted."

The 2005 WHO Treaty , international health regulations that came about after SARs , does not permit member nations to ban travel.

Australia and now Canada are in violation of this treaty. I suspect there are no consequences to violating this treaty. The irony is that Canada advocated for this treaty after WHO issued a travel advisory for travel to/ from Torronto during the peak of SARs.

Australia put a hold on issuing new visas to those nationals of the affected countries. It will however, honor previously issued visas. Australia continues to allow foreigners who don't require visas ( for example, US citizens) who have recently traveled to the affected areas to enter. It also allows Aussie nationals to renter after travel to the affected area.

Canada has put visas for those from the affected area on hold with room for discretion. Canada will not allow foreigners who recently travelled within the affected area to enter. Speculation on my part is that this is intended to keep out US people who might use Canada as an alternative entry point. Canada will not prevent Canadians who travelled within the affected area from returning home.

So, it will remain a splat-borne, sexually transmissible disease?

And only his base likes him, most Americans don't like him. He's more concerned about muslims than Americans.

Yes, let's all stroke our chins on that insightful, astute, and profound thought.
Let's see, where is that "Fox parrot" emoticon?
