This is about law enforcement policy, but may move toward other strategies and ideas for preventing unnecessary deaths.

So, in terms of police policy, would it be a good or bad idea to leave in place the policy of chasing felony suspects? Or should officers be barred from giving chase to any suspect?

If during that chase, the officer finds himself targeted by a threat from the suspect, I think it would be beneficial to have a policy of attempting to flee, if possible, to allow for backup to arrive or other options for ending the altercation.

Again, anything wrong with that?

I don't know whether the actual shooting was justified. If Wilson's description of the events is true AND he reasonably thought he had no means of escape, I would say that it was not

A good way to stop it next time would be for criminals to stop being criminals (robbery, attacking officers etc).

It's a radical concept, I know.

So cops should have the duty to retreat? Great way to embolden criminals.

it will not be avoided. to be avoided we would have to determine that the officer did something wrong. according to the grand jury, he didnt.
i think that mr obama's intent to have video cameras on all police is good progress.
my concern is that it will backfire and provide damning evidence that many young black men are in fact attacking the police and in defiance of the law. you must be careful what you ask for. but my deepest fear is that even with video the community will continue to deny the facts concerning the behavior of young men in their community. showing people things they dont want to see does not make for good people pleasing. just look at my popularity record on CDF.

These posters have to be too intelligent to believe the stuff they're saying.

Hmm...

I have a list of suggestions. Won't share the entire list because things are still developing, but I'll give 2 since they're already out in the media.

1) Body cameras

2) Independent Investigative agencies lead by citizens.

When you file a complaint against an officer. It will no longer be Police investigating themselves. It would be an independent agency that can not only investigate, but recommend charges (special prosecutor).
