Obama drew a Red Line for Congress on Iran ...... Boehner announced a response to that.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Wednesday invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress, just a day after President Obama reiterated his threat to veto an Iran sanctions bill during his State of the Union address |The Hill

Noting Obama's comments in Tuesday's address, Boehner said he would tell his conference at a closed-door meeting Wednesday morning that the president "expects us to stand idly by and do nothing while he cuts a bad deal with Iran."

At a press conference following that closed-door GOP meeting, Boehner was asked whether the decision to invite Netanyahu was coordinated with the White House or a way to poke the president in the eye.

“I did not consult with the White House,” Boehner told reporters. “The Congress can make this decision on its own. I don't believe I'm poking anyone in the eye. There is a serious threat that exists in the world and the president last night kind of papered over it. The fact is there needs to be a more serious conversation in American about how serious the threat is from radical Islamic jihadists and the threat posed by Iran.”

From the Senate Side - Senator Robert Menendez (Dem NJ) doesn't like Obama's threats either.
"The more I hear from the administration and its quotes, the more it sounds like talking points that come straight out of Tehran," railed Menendez at a hearing with administration officials on Capitol Hill.|CNN

Prime Minister Netanyahu has accepted the Invitation from Congress to address them in a Joint Session - the White House says they need to know what Netanyahu will say to Congress. Obama might think he has the right to "vet" The Prime Minister's speech. I'm betting he can't do that. I do think he can make some more threats and issue some more Red Lines, but his track record is not very good - in fact, it's horrible.

Interesting times we live in.

Did Obama demanded to see the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's speech, before he was allowed to speak before congress in 2009?

Doubtful, but Team Obama might have actually written President Calderon's Speech to Congress when he stood in front of the US Congress and berated a US State Government.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon condemned Arizona's tough, new immigration law during a joint session speech Thursday to Congress.|The Hill May 2010

Earnest said the White House is reserving judgment about the invite until it finds out from Israeli officials what Netanyahu would say. Boehner's office confirmed that Netanyahu has accepted, and will give a speech to a joint session of Congress on Feb. 11. The date is significant: it's the 36th anniversary of the Iranian Revolution.

The speaker said in a statement Wednesday that he invited Netanyahu "to address Congress on the grave threats radical Islam and Iran pose to our security and way of life."

Obama is claiming that he won't allow Congress to take a vote on whatever "deal" he makes with Iran.

Any congressman/woman worth their salt should NOT attend or they should walk out immediately.

Our policy towards Iran should have no Israeli component to it. We don't need Netanyahu's advice or any of his speeches or opinions. Israel is a sovereign nation...they have a right to formulate any policies they choose in regards to Iran...including tan attack if they so choose.

But we should have no hand in it or facilitate it in any way.

Our policy towards Iran is none of Netanyahu's business. He should not lecture members of our government in regards to any third party nation.

We need to do what is in the best interests of the US, not Israel.

Anyone have a link to the claim that the White House wanted a transcript of the speech.

The Israel right wing is getting a bit tiresome.

Really?

Iran subsidizes terrorism and is embarked on getting nuclear weapons. That is why Netanyahu should speak.

Your idiot in the WH has his head in the sand.

He can send all the FU's he wants.

We're not going to war with Iran no matter how bad Netanyahu wants us to. The Republican Dream will remain a dream.

Approve that.

He can speak til he's blue in the face. We're not gonna attack Iran. Iran is no threat to us.

If they're a threat to Israel, that's none of my concern. I only care about the United States.

Obama can suck it. Congress doesn't seem to have any say in who visits the White House so why should they bother consulting the Obama admin?

Let's not forget who the junior partner in the relationship is

Netanyahu is trying to appeal to Obama ultimately. Boehner doesn't make foreign policy, and he can't help Netanyahu no matter how much he might want to.

Obama can suck it? Great. I hope Netanyahu uses those exact words. Because he's gonna leave Washington empty handed.
