"Oklahoma Republicans are fighting the legalization of marriage equality in their state with a number of bills restricting same-sex or atheist couples from being able to wed.

The Daily Oklahoman reported that, under one bill submitted by state Rep. Todd Russ (R), only “an ordained or authorized preacher or minister of the Gospel, priest or other ecclesiastical dignitary of any denomination” would be allowed to sign marriage certificates."

GOP lawmakers declare

The bill would bar judges from performing weddings and clerks from issuing marriage licenses. Only a clergy member could do so. So in effect, atheists would no longer have the right to marry in Oklahoma.

One of Russ' Republican colleagues, state Rep. Sally Kern, has introduced three of her own bills, one of which would cause state and local employees to lose their jobs if they recognize or grant marriage licenses to gay couples, and judges who violate that edict would be immediately removed from the bench. The bill also calls for state courts to dismiss any legal challenge to the measure.

The Christian Taliban strikes again with their own version of Sharia law. Marriage is reserved for Christians only. All others need not apply.

Absolutely idiotic, but thankfully this has no chance of becoming law. Doubtful to pass, and it would be overturned by the Courts

If you had even the slightest clue what Sharia Law is, or the Taliban, you would see the stupidity of this statement.

No, they are not the same but when someone does something as stupid as this, well, some hyperbole is certainly justified.

Hyperbole? Something said not meant to be taken seriously.

I'd bet heyjude514 meant what he said to be taken seriously. The left has been trying to make that "Christian Taliban" shtick stick, and apparently it's working on some really low intelligence partisans.

Doesn't have a chance in passing or not being struck down if it does. This is simply political theater.

Well, state Rep. Todd Russ (R) appears to be a bit of an idiot who likes to waste the legislature's time and his constituents money. Or perhaps he feels he just have to act like one to cater to his constituency.

Although this is exactly what should be expected from Republicans in backwards places - a few last-ditch efforts, some increasingly cockamamie schemes to make sure the gays know just how much the GOP considers them second-rate. It'll fail, of course. It won't make it to law (I have a higher opinion of the Oklahoma legislature than that) and if it were to pass, it could be ripped apart on Constitutional grounds by a 2Y law student.

Just some lip service for the religious-minded bigots, nothing to see here.
