We have already seen this, time after time, in Africa. We never got involved in the wars that plagued central Africa for over 20 (and sometimes 30 years), but our involvement in the Philippines, which is still undergoing similar fighting from similar forces, over the same time period, never changed anything there. The fight is still going on, scattered in the remote islands of the Philippine archipelago, to this day.

We would have not made any more difference in the African outcomes than we did in Iraq or in the Philippines. Why? Because we have never been prepared to remain in any other territory forever. Our token forces that remained in place throughout the Cold War only turned out to be wasted expense once they bought our allies a little time. The countries under Soviet occupation had to free themselves.

The same is equally true anywhere else in the world. Even the Romans, the best occupiers of any empire, understood that fact. The way they kept control of the nations they conquered was to send in small forces that understood they would never come back home in their lives. Their job was to create new governments that were half Roman by marrying into the natives. Anyone is more reluctant to kill a relative than a stranger.

Americans have never been willing to go that far and they never will be that willing.
Based on responses from the honorable right, you're throwing pearls before swine, Mike.

We've got money. Tons of it. We just spend it on garbage with no return.
That's brilliant. Americans getting health care is a waste, ripping foreigners limb from limb gets us a return.

The US government certainly has a way of training the enemy. The US trained radical extremists who inserted themselves into the Iraq Army as well as the ANA in Afghanistan. In Afghanistan there were many cases of blue on green attacks. I lost a friend who was shot in the back and died at the hands of a 17 year old boy he was training and took under his wing.

And here we are, back again in Iraq, training people for the Iraq Army and not knowing if they are friend or foe, and once again wanting to support the Syrian rebels.

These refugees will not be living in tent cities or compounds where they are guarded and not allowed to go beyond the tent cities or compounds. In the US they will be spread out across America. And there is no sure way to know who is an extremist.

I have also noticed an increase in childishness lately.

"A spokesman for the Armed Forces General Command announced the strikes on state radio Monday, marking the first time Cairo has publicly acknowledged taking military action in neighboring Libya, where extremist groups seen as a threat to both countries have taken root in recent years. The statement said the warplanes targeted weapons caches and training camps before returning safely. It said the strikes were "to avenge the bloodshed and to seek retribution from the killers.""

the US is slowly turning away little by little from that mentality they used to have 30-40 years ago. It looks like they want to salvage more of their own lives than their allies for attacks like those.

Sorry, but this administration's continual ridiculous comments and double standard invited this. And it's hardly just "the right" that's noticed and taken issue with it; many Dems and even his former supporters have spoken out about it.
