Washington D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser has decided to follow the wishes of her citizens after 70% of them voted to legalize recreational cannabis despite threats of being thrown in jail from certain congress critters.
I think this just may bring up the states ignoring Federal laws which needs to be addressed by government and the courts. I think it needs to be address one way or the other.
It is in the pipeline. Fife, a small town here in WA, has challenged the statewide legalization of marijuana on the grounds that it is still illegal under federal law. Eric Holder struck a deal with WA Gov Jay Inslee to ignore federal law, which IMO is blatantly unconstitutional. Article One Section One of the Constitution bestows legislative powers to the Congress, not to the Attorney General.
If marijuana advocates want to legalize it, they must go through the US Congress, and negotiate, In particular, they would have to agree to reductions in the welfare state to win reductions in the nanny state. The case could well eventually get to the Supreme Court, where mj advocates would probably lose. A city takes aim at Washington's marijuana law | HeraldNet.com - Northwest-

Why would they have to do that?
Just because that's what you want does not make it so.
The 14th amendment says 'No state shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.'
It's not the fault of the 14th amendment that society failed to extend those equal rights protection to women.
The wording of the 14th covers all groups (including women) not just freed slaves, and makes the 19th amendment rather redundant.
Not just any group that decides to be "a group" though.
Great news for the East Coast. While the Left Coast is legalizing marijuana, there has been no movement on the East Coast, until now. I expect Maine and possibly Massachusetts to becomes the first East Coast states to legalize. The Republican dominated Southeast will likely never legalize, with the possible exception of Florida.
Hearing these conservative dopes run their suck about how it's "not a game" makes me want to puke. These rightwing nutjobs need to get a life and remember they work for us, not the other way around.
If the Congress ignores the people, why shouldn't the people ignore the Congress?
What is he point of Rule of Law and a Constitution if Congress, the Administration and the People all ignore them? We can't just Cherry Pick which Laws we like and which parts of the Constitution we like - and ignore the rest.
The entire System will collapse as the trend grows. Anarchy will be the result.
]Under the "Home Rule" government, Congress reviews all legislation passed by the council before it can become law and retains authority over the District's budget. Also, the president appoints the District's judges, and the District still has no voting representation in Congress.
The REALITY is that under Federal Law - Marijuana is illegal. How can the Congress approve it's legality in D.C and still follow the Laws on the books? The issue must be addressed in Congress, not by popular opinion. Change the Law, don't ignore the Law.
Cannabis users could claim the "right to privacy", it's not as of they are killing babies.
Goodness gracious.
Really, you went there?!
