American-Born London Mayor Refuses To Pay US Taxes, Threatens To Renounce Citizenship

Very unusual and interesting case of a politician turning renegade, no more loyalty towards his country of origin !

Because of the new ruling last year the USG wants taxes on all money you earn whether it's on US soil or not.
The USG is bleeding people dry even when they haven't worked here in years.

My cousin has never worked in the US yet has to file and pay taxes every year on her European earnings.
She lives and works in Europe as an EU citizen (dual citizenship-Ireland) yet come April she has to file a US tax form.

Yes but that's valid everywhere, the citizen of European Union pay more taxes than the Americans and it's even worst in other countries ( China, Russia, Japan, S. Korea)

No it's not. Go read up on this.

The US is the only country to tax their citizens on worldwide income.

Incorrect. The US is the only country that taxes on worldwide income.

In the mayor's case (he left the US at age 5) he files both UK and US tax forms, and pays the IRS the positive difference between his UK tax payments and his US taxes owed. In prior years his UK taxes exceeded his US taxes do he paid nothing to the IRS - but this year he sold his primary residence and made a handsome profit. This capital gain is not taxable in the UK but is taxable under the US tax code.

Actually she doesn't "have" to she chooses to since she chooses to keep her US Citizenship.

This isn't "a new ruling last year". It has always been the case that US citizens and residents, even dual citizens and those residing abroad, must file and report all global income.

No, I believe expats from Eritrea are also required to pay tribute. So we're in good company.

So?

You don't get the benefits of being a US citizen without corresponding responsibilities.
