Swedish law already currently mandates 18 months of paid parental leave that could be used by both parents' (60 days reserved for the father), but now encourage father's to get even more leave and extent paternity leave to 3 months of paid. Yes, you heard it right - 3 months!
The U.S. doesn't even offer any paid maternity leave... so sad for a "1st world" country. Indeed, even unpaid leave is not granted unless company has 50+ employees

Maybe that's why the U.S. is a 1st world country. It doesn't run like a social institution.
Depending on your employer in the U.S. employees do get paid sick leave. Also you can take up to 6 months unpaid family leave.
Most companies, especially smaller and medium-sized do not offer any paid leave, which includes most Americans working at those companies. 6 months unpaid family leave is not granted nation-wide; and how many could actually afford taking 6 months leave unpaid?!

Why not offer it until the child gets married?
