Ok Mathguy. Tell us how it is.

Mayor slams state of Kansas' intrusion in municipal government tax policy | CJOnline.com

“This is not the typical thoughtful policymaking process Kansans expect or deserve,” Gerlach said. “At the 11th hour and under great pressure to complete a state budget, the Kansas Senate enacted a major local budgetary policy decision impacting all cities and counties across the state without any committee discussion, without any public input, without a full understanding of the implications of this legislation.”

I see that Brownback and GOP is threatening the courts, if the district courts rule against them they will withhold funding. It appears they want to stack the district courts with their own people.

Problems with education and pension funding and no plan to correct the $400M deficit.

Quote:
The measure, at the end of a lengthy bill that allocated money for the
judiciary this year, stipulates that if a state court strikes down a 2014 law
that removed some powers from the State Supreme Court, the judiciary will lose
its funding.

The 2014 law took the authority to appoint chief judges for the district
courts away from the Supreme Court and gave it to the district courts
themselves. It also deprived the state’s highest court of the right to set
district court budgets. Critics said the law was an attempt by Mr. Brownback, a
Republican, to stack the district courts with judges who may be more favorable
to his policies

States pass budgetary policy decisions all the time that impact cities and counties within it just like the Federal Government does the state. Look at ACA for an example.

I'm not sure how this equates to Kansans going down the drain given money must come from somewhere and its the same process every other place in the nation takes part in.

Lightbulb That great sucking sound as Kansans get sucked down the drain

Brownback was a standout moron of the religious right when he was in the senate, but he was just one of 100 votes on any issue, so he couldn't do much damage.

As guv, he can now paralyze an entire state.

Heck of a job, Brownie!

Where are all the Conservatives crying out against this blatant and unprecedented power grab by the executive branch? I guess it's okay if it is one of their guys...

Sam and the rest have screwed the pooch and they are just trying to save their asses and change things that don't need changed. No one but the had a say in it.Little by little they claim they are helping the state but in actuality they are sending them down the drain. Did you even read the article.

Conservatives like big government. Bush, even with Republican Senate and House majorities from 2003-2007, increased government.

This is not merely big government, this is the governor threatening to defund the entire judiciary branch in Kansas if they dare to rule against him. How is there no outcry of rage from the right wingers, who have railed against the president for what they consider overreach of the executive branch? It doesn't get much more blatent than Brownback declaring he will strip the courts of funding unless they rule the way he demands, yet there is no outrage from the right.

The GOP has a plan to correct the $400 million deficit. They created it by eliminating the income tax on wealthy business owners and will solve it by raising taxes on the poor and middle class and defunding the public school system. Just like the Koch brothers wanted and paid for.
