The Taliban and ISIS destroy historical statues and religious sites. We are more civilized when we remove them to historical places preserving the history, and still able to shield ourselves from any meaning those offended wish to assign. That's a shovel ready job that wasn't ready for a shovel until now.
I think the real reason many of the confederate symbols were on display is the same reason Grant didn't take Lee's horse after he surrendered.

Those who Win are the ones who write the history books or in this case rewrite.

I don't understand how one racist murdering idiot can spark such a backlash against the confederate flag, The General Lee on the Dukes of Hazard TV show and now a statue of a historical figure.

Symbols like flags and statues mean different things to different people. It is understandable how the confederate flag in the hands of a white supremist carries a different meaning than a civil war reenactor wearing the flag on his cap or the flag flying over the state house. The confederate flag is not a symbol of racism unless you think it is.

Removing it or a statue of Jefferson Davis is a knee jerk reaction to a tragedy. Does anyone actually think that racist killer was motivated to evil deeds by a flag??

The South pre 1865 went to war to protect their way of life which had more than slavery going for it. There is a proud heritage behind that flag and statue and they should serve as a reminder that the South may rise again if a tyranical gov. in DC should push them into it.

This senseless attack in a church has actually brought people together not divided them but lets not forget history as we all hold hands.

Looks like the republicans have finally learned that it is not just enough to "talk" about being inclusive.

I wonder what Georgia is going to do with stone Mountain with the giant carvings of Jeff Davis, Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson on it?

...just saying.

The great purge is on. All because a 21 year old crazed racist held that flag.
He also hated Jews and Hispanics and targeted them next which has nothing to do with the Confederate flag.

Also because lots of other crazed racists have held that flag. This was the just the last straw. A big straw, but a straw nevertheless.

Also, boo-f**king-hoo.

Wow.

It is like Eastern Europe from 1989 to 1990 when all the Communist statues were toppled over.
