Why modern society has chosen to act like it didn't is interesting in an omg, what is wrong with people kind of way, but completely wrong. It doesn't matter how media or some Southern school system attempted to make it into something else. It doesn't matter how you want to view it, either. There is no confusion for people who know their history. None. You have simply chosen to view it within the context of a terrible lie, and that is nothing to be proud of.
It stood for something 150 years ago, that does not mean it stands for the same thing today. Many words, phrases and symbols change meanings for people over the years, it's why dictonaries have numbers to represent the multiple meanings and context to words. The word gay used to refer to being happy go lucky, silly and festive, now it's common meaning is homosexual.

People like you want to be the sole arbiter of the meanings and context to every facet of our lives, sorry, but that is not your decision to make for others.

Southern pride in what? Being born south of an imaginary line? Lol...that's pretty damn stupid.

What the hell is Southern Pride?

That's when the flag made its comeback. Curious fact, huh? Not that anyone is saying it was resurrected to intimidate blacks or had any racial overtones or anything....

It's good that you know your history, Tumf.
And if that's true, it's also true that those were democrats doing it. The history of the Democratic Party is one steeped in racism, slavery, segragation, lynching, racial supremesist groups like the KKK, and filibustering both the civil rights laws and anti-lynching legislation. The Democratic Party should be the one banned. It's good to know your history. Tumf

You think people are only proud of their state, our their local culture and traditions in northern states??? You are hopeless, your eyes and ears are shut.

If you were to fly the US flag, someone from another country can play your asinine game too. They could say all those things about you, when you claim what our stars and stripes means to you.

In fact, if you are a democrat, then all those horrible things you claim applies to the rebel flag applies to your freaking political party

The Confederate Flag was NOT created to promote hatred towards any group.
It was designed by a self-declared "Fire Eater", a group so pro-slavery they weren't just arguing secession, but reinstatement of the African slave trade. I guess they may not have hated black people - just considered it right that they should be property.

It was a flag that displayed its wanting to be separated from the government of the north, as they were unfairly represented.
Unfairly? They were exceptionally well represented, being able to count a proportion of their slaves as part of the population when it came to allocating seats in Congress - a highly beneficial arrangement, in that the masters of course did the voting.

"Unfairly represented"...

Good for them. I am all in favor of communities making decisions like this for themselves. Unlike most of the people who cry PC but really mean they don't like opposing view points.

Northern states?

Lol...people in Pennsylvania don't care about the pride Ohioans have in their state.

Now back to my question...what the hell is southern pride?

Correct - during the civil rights struggle, it was appropriated by some very, very unwholesome types. But both in 1861 and in 1961, it was a chosen symbol of those who did not want to accept the idea of black people having rights, let alone equal rights.

Oh, pure coincidence, I'm sure.

I just love all this Confederate Flag stuff. What are we hearing? Although the concepts aren't the same, there are certainly some parallels.

Don't take the actions of a few (KKK using the Confederate flag) to judge all (people who aren't racist, that display the flag because of their heritage or whatever the reason) in that group.

Where have I heard that before.......
